hi ive only just found this site and happy to do so as well i am on the nicorette one where i have to log in every day and update my progress i also get texts every day which is good but not the same as chatting to others that are going through the same as myself

i am using patches but not every day as my skin has a bad reaction to them even if i place the patch on a new place im of to see the nurse tomorrow

im also using the nicorette but only when im in a situation where i would normally smoke ie when im chatting on the phone

i have been cutting down on my usage though as i dont want to get too dependent on them plus if i puff on them too much i end up feeling really sick

has any one got any ideas as to what i could try

regards

newbie carol

ps i posted this reply before i realised that i should have just posted anew thread

Hi ~Carol (think i saw you on FB page?)

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on being 18 days into your quit :)

what patches are you on? im on invisi patch and after a few days i was getting really itchy with them and someone on here told me, before i put them on, waft them about in the air and it has worked for me. If not maybe a different brand may help you.

I found chewing on a straw helped me out to start with, well chewed sucked and mimicked it lol but its getting out of the habbit of "hand to mouth" that has really helped me. you could try doodling when on the phone?

We also have on here an October 10 quit group, feel free to join.

hi and thanks for the replies :) noel and snowie how do i go about joining the group?

im on the invisable 16 hour patch and will try what you suggested mind you the other prob i have with that patch is the fact it comes of so damn easily especially when i get hot

hoping the nurse wilbe able to suggest something else tomorrow

i have just had a phone call and instead of puffing on the nicorette with anything in it im just using an empty one atm

but def need to find something else to do with my hand

ive got out the habit of puffing on the nicorette now when i have my first cup of coffee in the morning

Hi hun,

Go to quick links at top of page and click social groups, on there you will see

the October 10 quit group :)

Yes they do fall off easily sometimes, which is great when its time to come off, because other times they stick too harshly and blooming hurt instead lol

I smooth mine down and hold them for a about a minute, that normally helps.

but knowing this site is here i know will help me big time for those moments  which will lessen and pass with the more time i go without

thanks again for the response

Levs1000 Days Smoke Free

Hi Carol and welcome to the site,

Well done on getting to day 18. Not sure what to suggest with the hand to mouth as I just replaced mine with biscuits and am now trying to get past that lol. Try sugar free mints, snowies suggestion of a straw is a good one, whatever you need to do to not smoke !!!

If a straw hasn't got enough density for you (I know I would just bite it lol) try taking the innards out of a bic biro and just sucking on the tube.

Hi Guys

The way i got round the "hand to mouth" thing was to start knitting. That way you have broken the routine of doing that old habit and are now doing something new which does not involve eating extra or reminding yourself of the old routine in order to stop the crave. If you break the habit then the craves are easier if that makes sense. If you constantly keep trying to replace one with another then the thoughts last longer, well for me they did thats why i changed my routine this time and it worked for me. But of course what works for me may not work for everyone and i appreciate that. Good luck

I would also try to break the hand-to-mouth habit if I were you... just because at some point you'll have to break it!

I suppose in the beginning if you want to replace it for a while (although you may become dependent on what you replace it with) something that surprised me were cinnamon sticks. I even wrote a 'warning' post in the 'tips' section because I just found it so much like smoking in terms of size, weight and density. Be really careful tho, it reminded me a little too much of smoking!

I used nicorette too, thought they were fab.

Well done :) 18 days is amazing!

i cant believe it wilbe 3 weeks tomorrow i didnt think the time would go that quickly without smoking

i had my daughter and my little man around to see me today which is always a big bonus and dont thing it wilbe long now till my new grandson is here and nanny will def not be a smelly nanny :):)

i started using the new patches today and so far they arnt aggrevating my skin but still not sticking too well so using micro porus tape to stick it down and keep it in place

hope everyone elses day is going well even thought the weather hasnt been too great :(
