Its day 2 with no fags and I feel great. Im on Champix and seeing a great hypnotist Andrew (thanks) and also going to my stop smoking sessions.
Ive also just joined you lot.
I want to stop because its going to kill me. I cough in the morning and I cant walk up hills. I want to go walking in the lake district again (I tried earlier this year and had to make an excuse that my boots hurt but really it was my lungs then I sat in the car for 4 hours smoking while the rest of my family went on). I want to walk my 2 lovely dalmations over the Cheshire countryside without stopping for a fag and then turning back cos im coughing.
I want to live my life without panicking because I havent got any fags and I want to kiss my husband of 35 years and know I smell as good as he does and I also want to see my 5 grandchildren get married and as Im only 52 and the oldest ones 12 I might even become a great grandmother. And to top it all on the 1st of October I am having a boob reduction & tummy tuck and I want to look 10 years younger.
The good news is after only 4 days on Champix I didnt feel like a fag and from 35+ a day I had dropped to 6 and on that day I had my carbon reading it had dropped from 30 to 10, under 5 being a non smoker that gave me the push to stop before the date I had to.
So here I am day 2 and feeling positive, my hypnotist helped me loads last night and I walked the dogs this morning and didnt cough, my skin looks better and Im holding on to that dream of standing on top of Skiddaw and breathing fresh air with my new boobs a flat tummy and a glint in my eye.

Curly wurlys mmmmmmm however.. no.... they shrunk them too much with the discombobulator ray for my liking They were definitely much bigger when i was young.. eeeeeeee when i were young.. and wagon wheels? don't even get me started on them.. and where did arrow bars go anyway? Thank god tootie frooties survived.. and that caramac still adorns the shelves in my local shop.
Ahhh chocoloate........*does a homer impression* mmmmmmm chocolate... oooh.. donuts.
Tell you what else is good Rountrees fruit gums although they are smaller than they were and I got an exercise vibrating machine for my birthday so when I feel desperate I go on that for 10 mins and it vibrates your whole body so fast you cant possibly light a fag and it might stop all those curlywurlys going straight in my hips.
You have a lot of goos reasons there to quit just hang in there
Below is my standard welcome and advice post which I try and give all new members
Welcome to the forum and well done on the decision to quit possibly one of the most important you will ever make and you will be losing nothing but you will regain control of your life and that has to be good
You will find all the help and support you need on here as we all help each other just like a family we are here for you every step of the way cheering the good days and sympathiseing with the bad but the good far outweigh the bad
Read the posts on here you will find a lot of tips and advice and in the signatures of a lot you will find links to other sites just click on them Here are 2 I find very good to start you off whyquit.com and woofmang.com Read, read and then read some more as the more you read and learn about why you smoked and about your addiction the easier your quit will be
This link is good for the psychological part of quitting
You refered to the emotional side to giving up earlier and this lunch time I was feeling quite tearful and my husband rang just at that time which made me burst into tears. Unfortunatly he had biked the 10 miles to work today but the little love is so supportive he immediatly biked straight home and came bursting in looking worried. By then the mood!!! had turned and he found me dancing to mamma mia singing at the top of my voice. So thanks to him and I really do appreciate his concern and to you all also
Wow Murph - what a brilliant incentive! To stand on the top of Skiddaw,
I love hill walking and Skiddaw is a great climb, please believe me when I say it is SO worth giving up the horrible smokes to achieve this.
My nephew was my big incentive - I haven't got my own children but as soon as little Jack was born I knew I wanted to see him grow up - I'd love to go to his 50th birthday party (I'll be 90!).
Please remember - you just need to re-train your brain and to unlearn to smoke. This can take time - around 6 weeks - but after that it just gets easier and easier. For those first 6 weeks do anything but don't smoke - eat curly wurlies by the ton if necessary! But DON'T smoke.
I have not smoked for 8 months and I don't ever think about smoking now, even when my husband is smoking so believe me when I say it can be done.
Good luck and well done for finding this forum - it certainly helped me!
Hi Caroline, welcome and very well done on quitting, I loved what you wrote, It cheered me up! The very fact that we have all quit is a blessing, I like that new found confidence that we all find by quitting. Giving up seems to open loads of doors to new opportunites like "Being able to breath again!" Not being the "Stinky only smoker" in the work place. I am very proud of you and hope you have a great weekend.
Im nearly at 7 weeks, and I feel 20 years younger energy wise, and my breathing has improved loads!!!!
Like all of us, we all loved smoking and we all probably didnt think we'd ever give up, but we did, and you can too!!!
I recommend reading margs links for some reading about cancer lungs, limbs being removed etc.
Also, I found it helpful to admit to myself I am a Nicotine addict, and can never ever smoke another fag again, same as an alcholic can never ever drink again. They love drinking but know it will kill them, same with us.
Lastly, another gem I found helpful, when getting a strong craving, I likened myself to someone giving up herion, and there pain is 100 times worse than ours, so I didnt allow myself any sympathy as really, why should I when giving up smoking is 100 times easier than Heroin?
Pick out the ones you like, and I hope they help you like they helped me, stay positive, remember your dream and ambition.
Were all willing you to be successful and your among friends here!
Day 3 and I ran up the stairs today and didnt cough once, isnt our body wonderful that after 36 years of abuse it can start to recover so quick.
We should organise a walk up in the lakes for the spring for all those who stopped in 2009 and couldnt have done it before fags
Caroline
I'd love to have a meet up in the Lakes - we could all climb Skiddaw and plant a flag for the ex-smokers now non-smokers. Stick with it Murph - everyday you don't smoke gets that little bit easier and a step further towards your goal
We all have our own reasons, not the least of which is the fact that it is the most powerful way that we can have our say on what we want done in this country.
But what it is particularly that leads you to vote?
