Hi I am a new member today, just wanted to say all the best and good luck, I have a quit date set for 12 october a weeks time, I will also be using the patches and inhalator. I look forward to reading how your progress is going over the days. Again good luck! :)
Welcome back, Nikki, you have great reasons to quit and mine are very similar. I am on about my 5/6 quit and feel so much better this time, you sound like you know it is right this time and that you have your head in the right place, as for you way of quitting, each quit is different and i'm glad you have found the way that you are happy with.

Hi Melanie and welcome, lots of people around here have used the patches and inhalator so if you have any questions just shout out and someone will be able to help. We are also here if you just want to have a rant or rave, and please come along and let us share the good days too.
i would suggest you do some reading of the links in the sigs it will help with getting your head in the right place.
I look forward to reading your how your progress is going, please keep coming back to let us know.
Welcome back, and good luck with your quit. Its important to you, so i hope that you achieve everything you set out to do, and stay quit and free from the demons grasp. You will do it.. just keep focused.
@ mel: also good luck. There is never a wiser move than quitting, it just took some of us a long time to finally realise it. Well done on making the decision, but keep to your plan and make sure that on the morning of the 12th that you start as planned. best o luck, hope you make it through.
Thanksyou for the welcome and words of encouragement ladies.
Mel its good you have set your quit date.
How many ciggarettes do you smoke a day?
Beacuse i am such a heavy smoker the stop smoking nurse suggested i use the inhalator as well as patches as the patches alone would not be enough NRT for me and it really does take the edge off the cravings. The nurse reccomended i reduce my smoking down this week to prepare for the quit, but i haven't.
I have lost count of my quit attempts but the way i see it is, 1 of them IS going to be the one!
First of all thank you all for the lovely welcome.
Well I smoke 20+ a day and the nurse also suggested that I use both to start with and see how things go. I did the carbon monoxide tester thing and it maxed, so I am also a heavy smoker, although convinced myself for sometime that I wasn't smoking that much
I wanted to join somewhere early so I could get in lots of reading and viewing of other peoples experiences as I have tried cold turkey a few times over the years but to no avail so thought I would try with maximum support available.
I have smoked for about 20 yrs, since I was 14. I have decided that I dont want smoking to control me anymore as I have 2 lively boys whom I struggle to play footy with due to breathlessness. (Asthma) I have had for years now due to smoking I want to see my boys grow up and see my grandkids, something none of my parents got the chance to do as they both died young. My father smoked himself to death and I refuse to let me kids see me in that way.
I am determined this time round with the right help and support and hope I can make my boys proud of me.
Sorry for the essay, nice to get it down in writing for a change instead of in my head.
Nikki, I really wish you the best tommorrow and will be here to support you in any way I can. Good luck x
PS Any info or links for me to view or read would be greatfully received
I think doing if for your boys and your own health has to be the 2 best reasons ever.
I lost my Dad to cancer, he was just 44 when he died, also his Brother and his Mum died to cancer, his Mum in her 50's and his Brother again young, he was 40.
I have 3 Brothers from my Dad and one had hit 40's. still smokes, other is 39 and smokes and then theres my younger Brother, he is 33 and had a mini stroke back in July, he's still smoking too.
I think Cold turkey is the hardest way but really admire those who can do it.
I couldn't do it on willpower alone, but thats not to say others can't.
Well done on the deicion to quit as you ask for some links for reading I'll give you the same post as Nikki but also read the posts on the forum there's a lot of really helpful hints and tips around here OK
