Hi RMW :)

Welcome to the forum and well done on the decision to quit possibly one of the most important you will ever make and you will be losing nothing but you will regain control of your life and that has to be good

You will find all the help and support you need on here as we all help each other just like a family we are here for you every step of the way cheering the good days and sympathiseing with the bad but the good far outweigh the bad

Read the posts on here you will find a lot of tips and advice and in the signatures of a lot you will find links to other sites just click on them Here are 2 I find very good to start you off whyquit.com and woofmang.com Read, read and then read some more as the more you read and learn about why you smoked and about your addiction the easier your quit will be

You say you will quit on Saturday, may I suggest that you have a really good read on this forum and use the links to read other sites as I feel this may well help you get your mind set in the right direction to make your quit much easier for you

Post often let us know how you are getting on we are all here for you even before your quit day if you want/need us

I used Champix as an aid to help me quit and found it really good as you may know to start with you smoke as normal and the drug works by making your brain beleive you don't want to smoke simple as that When you first get yours read the leaflet with it as you would with any other drug

You start by taking 1 tablet a day for 3 days then go to 2 a day for the first week it is 1/2 mg dose at sometime in second week [your choice] you stop smoking by which time I really didn't want to smoke and the last day I felt sick everytime I lit up urghhhh I only took 8/9weeks of my 12 week course as kept forgetting to take them for 2/3 days at a time but as with anything else we are all different and you may need them for less or more time than that

I can honestly say that I have never really wanted a fag since, yes I had the odd crave here and there but so far only one really bad one

Good Luck to you and your Mum for Monday between now and then may I suggest that you both use the forum and read, read and then read some more as it really does help also post if you want or need to any help we can give we will

Finally remember that Champix like anything else is only an aid it cannot work miracles so you will still need your willpower

Best Wishes

Marg

Hiya RMW. Good luck to you both in your efforts. I went for the 24Hr patches, and bought myself an inhalator for back up. I got them on the Thursday, but, didn't get myself ready mentally untill the Monday, so I don't blame your mother. I am three weeks on Monday smokefree and I've only used nine cartridges out of the 42, haven't used it for a few days now. Asked my adviser if I could start to come off the patches too, but she advised me to follow the programme so I will. Take notice of Marg's suggestion and read some of the links. David.

Hi There

I am also an inhalator quitter. Both my husband and I gave up together. He wasnt ready at first but after I quit on the Monday, he came home and chucked the cigs as well!

Coming to the end of week 3 and feeling great. I use around 6-8 cartridges on some days and then as low as 4 of others. I am going to follow the advice and continue on them as per the programme.

Good Luck for Monday.

Hi guys

I started champix on the 28th November 2008 and set myself a quit date of the 7th December.

I smoked between 30 and 40 fags a day and have stuck to this champix, it's a fantastic drug that as helped me to be a none smoker.

After being on champix for 2 months i decided myself to cut them down from 2 a day to 1 a day, i was having nightmares and being very forgetful and moody thats why i needed to cut them down, the next 30 days was so much better, i felt better in myself especially because i had'nt smoked.

I've stopped taking champix only last week, i still have a packet of champix left but thought i would see how i went on without them, so far so good not wanted a fag and its nice for the first time since i can remember i hav'nt got this urge to smoke.

Like i said fantastic drug and as worked for me, it as been hard espcecially with the side affects but it as been worth it, so depending on how you are with champix try and keep with it, cut them down if you have to, it does get easier.
