but I have got a quick question. I have patches (put it on first thing in the morning) and mint lozenges, my question is....................is it cheating to use and e-cig?
I am in 2 minds about using it instead of my lozenges. I know they are giving me nic the same as the e-cig would but just not sure about using it.
Any advice gratefully recieved and sorry if you are all getting fed up with seeing my name on here.

That's definitely not a stupid question - and there isn't really a right or wrong answer to it!!
If you use it *just* for NRT, and only when you're really desperate then it's not cheating - but - it is very easy to just swap one addiction for another with them!!
I use one, and am trying to kick that now which is rather tough so would say that if you can use anything other than an e-cig then do.
But, if it comes down to a choice between an e-cig and a fag go for the e-cig every time.
In the end, it doesn't matter *how* you kick the fags so long as you do.
I agree. E cigs are difficult to kick, but not as difficult as fags.
I have to say, I used one for the moments I would have cracked. Then I stopped taking it out with me, then I just set a date and didn't buy any more refills.
My OH still smokes, and there were moments I would have caved if not for my e cig. I know we should be strong, but 48 years of smoking is hard to rewire.
I suppose the answer is, only if really, really, really necessary as you will then have to wean yourself off them.
Having said that, I'm at 10 months quit.
Why not get day 3 out of the way, and promise yourself you'll think again tomorrow?
I am staying with my OH at the weekend and he smokes, he is really proud of how I am doing. its his e-cig i have (i lost mine). Am thinking it might be useful for when I am with him and he lights up.
I read somewhere about using a straw ( someone said about cotton wool in the end so it feels like you are having a drag) I do know some one that replaced cigs with patches, lozengers and an ecig and is still on then a year later. Maybe ask the chemist as you may be overdosing on nicotine using all 3??
I suppose I would say that they can be a quit saver. I don't think my quit would be intact without them. I know a lot of folks disapprove, but I'm not such a black and white thinking person. We're all different - thank goodness!
Just keep your quit. Another thing that kept me going was that I never wanted to do the first days of a quit again.
Off to deliver pressie for son's 36th birthday:eek: How did that happen!
Just remember Midwifey, when you go to bed tonight to think, 'I survived day 3-I never want to go through that again' and this morning cravings wont seem so bad.

Ahhh, this old chesnut
The e-cig is something that Gemma and I have been very confused about over the last couple of weeks.
We have both agreed that it feels as though we're cheating and that we're worried we'll get hooked. But we both also agree that it is the lesser of two evils (I believe it is possible to buy nictone free versions, which would eliminate the physical addiction altogether).
I think it's a personal thing to each of us. I seem to feel guilty every time I use mine (maybe 4-5 times in the last 3 weeks), but then I hit a really bad day yesterday and I should have used it then. Instead I refused to let myself, as it would be cheating!
On the one hand it means that I got through a stressful moment without any aids, but on the other I made myself (and the other half) miserable for a few hours because I let the situation wind me up.
I say that if you can fight through cold turkey, go for it! It's the best option. But if you do choose to use an e-cig, just really try to monitor the usage and keep the nictone level low.
Hell, couldn't do CT, would have caved after an hour lol. got patches and lozenges and like you, I feel if I use the e-cig I will be cheating. I will take it with me at the weekend and if it gets too difficult I will use it rather than scrounge a cig from OH xx
Would add though that while you have to be very careful using it or you will hook yourself on it, it's equally important not to beat yourself up if you do have to use it.

That's a good idea
But just remember, you CAN do it. As long as you believe you'll be absolutely fine and remind yourself how it would feel to have a cigarette now (the nasty taste, the rush, the guilt) you will be absolutely fine.

It's not smoking, which is the main thing
Yeah, I'm a beater upper unfortunately  Lol.
As long as you have quit real fags, you are ahead of the game
It's a grey area the Ecig thing,as people say.I don't agree with them,I say ditch the whole thing,at the same time several quits would have failed without them so that makes them a good tool.
And Amanda-no such thing as a daft question on here
The object is to give up smoking cigarettes and you do whatever it takes. You can get e-cigs without nicotine. I tried with and without and couldn't tell the difference. I had an inhalator which I puffed on for weeks and doubt I could have got through without it. Used that as well as the patches. Problem with the inhalator is that it contains nicotine. You do what suits you and nothing you do is cheating. Good luck
