Well I'm new to this forum and I have never really used one of these before. Hubby and I stopped smoking 4 days ago and are using electronic cigarettes. These work pretty well but I'm still struggling!!!! Not sure if I should be going cold turkey instead!

Day 4 but struggling!

Hi. I am not using the e-cig myself but there are quitters on here that are.
You have come to the right place and well done to you and hubby on your decision to quit.
Thanks - I thought there might be others using the same method. I will have a look through the other threads to see how they are doing too.

Would definitely recommend going cold turkey, or using anther form of NRT (which e-cigs aren't really) 'cos I'm having a hell of a time getting off mine.
Good luck!!
Just came on to give some encouragement to you both. Didnt use e-cig but patches and stop smoking group.Stopped with my husband too found it really helped. We stopped 1st October 2012 so nearly 7 months in. It helped to lurk on here every evening too by the way. Good luck.
Welcome to the forum and well done for making a great decision!
Have you decided how you are going to use the e-cig? Will it be a replacement for the real thing or do you plan to wean yourself off? X
I'm using the patches as I find they take the 'edge' off the cravings. I actually cut the patches to size, down to half of the patch at the moment, but changing to a quarter at the weekend.
I know the patches don't work for anyone. I tried all sorts over the years, but the patches suit me best.
May be a case of try it and see.........even cold turkey!
Good luck - let us know how you get on
We are planning on using the e-cigs for a temporary period - no more than 3 months I would hope. I have tried most other methods in the past. Champix was the easiest - stopped for 4 months however I didn't like what the drug did to me. I can't use patches a they give me a rash so the e-cig is the latest attempt and hopefully the last!
Hello, and welcome!
It's good your on here talking about how hard your finding it, rather than out buying cigs!
This is the best place for support!
I know a couple of people who have quit with the e-cig. It's much better than an actual cig- and when u feel more confident u can try and drop off them.
We all have so many different ways, but we also have this forum- so just keep calling on people here- it will make u feel much stronger!!
Good luck- and welcome!!

It's really amazing how many people seem to use this forum. Thank you to everyone for the support!!!
I'm only on day 2 for this quit. But having had many failed ones all I know for sure is the only bad thing that happens is the sense of failure if you feck it up. No arms fall off, legs remain safely in place, breathing becomes easier, skin looks better.
From a personal perspective ecigs were the worst of many for me beacuse it doesn't break the habbit of smoking action. Having said that, it does work for many. All I known is don't give in, it will make you worse than you feel now.
Do whatever needs to be done each day that comes.... Today for me its been half a box of licorice soldiers, 3 glasses of vino and the skirting boards are really REALLY clean
I seem to have spent a lot of time cleaning over the past few days.... I guess that's fairly normal when not smoking. Not eating more than usual though so quite glad about that (although just polished off a handful of mini eggs that one of the kids left lying around)!
Sj,
That's great that you both stopped at the same time ! Encouragement and support is mostly what you need during the first week.
Day 4 for me and could not have done it without this forum.
Never tried the e-cigar. My father did but in the end he stopped - but my feeling is that his will was not strong enough. My friend was using Nicorette but then she became addicted to them so she discontinued.
I think there is no one solution or technic to keep the smoking away but a combination of different aspects.
Now I am trying to keep away from my smoking friends - "went on holidays for a month" as I fear that I am not strong enough to face them - just yet.
