This is my first bash at trying to give up. Truth is, I don't exactly know why; I really, really enjoy smoking.
Well, OK, there's the money bit. And our first child is on the way, and I don't want to be setting a bad example. And every visit of my nieces is punctuated at some point with 'your uncle is just going to go and, um, count the knotholes on next door's shed'.
So perhaps that's enough, actually. Why couldn't I do that without typing it here.
BECAUSE I REALLY, REALLY, REALLY WANT TO GO DOWNSTAIRS TO THE GARDEN! RIGHT NOW!
23.75 hours, and don't I know it. And I know there are 19 of the little buggers on the kitchen cupboard waiting for me to cave in... I HAVEN'T HAD THE LAST ONE YET! I JUST WENT TO BED, THAT'S ALL!
Aagh. Sorry to disturb your peace, chaps.

Well you have stoped for some blooming good reasons-and there are only a certain number of knot holes to be found in the shed!!
The first three days are the hardest so willpower is needed-therefore if really serious stopping smoking i would strongly advice you to get rid of the fags downstairs in the cupboard!!!! because if you get a crave its the first place you will run to!!!
In all honesty, I don't think I could sleep without knowing there were some in the house. But there isn't a lighter, match or even a gas cooker to light it with.
(I've just reflexively sniffed the fingers of my left hand. Wow! There's nothing there! That's awesome.)
I think I'll always feel cheated of my ceremonial last one. It's almost worth going back and doing day 1 again!

Read the posts on here you will find a lot of tips and advice and in the signatures of a lot you will find links to other sites just click on them Here are 2 I find very good to start you off whyquit.com and woofmang.com Read, read and then read some more as the more you read and learn about why you smoked and about your addiction the easier your quit will be
You say you don't know why you want to quit, so having a baby is a very good reason so go from there
You also say you know there are 19 in the kitchen cupboard, to much temptation get rid of them now or you will be down there smoking before the night is over the first few days are the worst I promise and after that it will get easier and think of even write a list of the benefits and there are loads not least and possibly the first you will notice is that you will no longer stink of smoke
Post often let us know how you are getting on we are all here for you even before your quit day if you want/need us
Whether they're downstairs or in the nearest shop doesn't make any difference to me, I can guarantee it. The point is that I don't want to quit, but I'm going to anyway. Which is why temptation isn't a particular problem.
Having said that, I keep going in waves, about five minutes apart - now I do, now I don't... oh, it's all so confusing...
I've just made a deal with myself that, since I enjoy it so much, I'll start again with a clear conscience on my 75th birthday. There's a solution.
