Hello, this is my first post! Had hypnotherapy last Thursday and haven't smoked since. Great, except I can't stop eating. I have spent most of my life trying to conquer a weight problem and I was only half a stone away from my goal weight when I gave up.
I know that stopping smoking is much more important than being a few pounds overweight, but psychologically its hideous! Anyone got any tips please???
Thank you.

Welcome to the site Juliet x x Well done on your decision to quit and get your life back!
I eat in mass too! I figure anything bar smoking is ok for the time being! I think the eating thing is big at first, then it settles down some, this would be the time to check the diet, probably after about 6 months of quitting.
If you are really worried about leaving it that long i would advise sipping water instead, I prefer this with a drop of lemon juice or lime juice in.
I also eat Pumpkin seeds with shells on as it takes ages to get off the shells it's like i can eat continually for 3 hours and i have had just a handful of seeds!
Congratulations on being a non smoker for a whole week!
Well done on not smoking. I ate loads as well the first few days, it does seem to be settling down a bit now. I agree with Buffy, it is better than smoking. Don't try to do too much at once, though. Congratulate yourself on 7 smoke free days and you can worry about the food later.
I also drink water now and if I am hungry and try and wait 20 mins. Most of the time I am just thirsty. I know it is hard to begin with, but stick to it
You know, I think all I have to do is give myself a stern talking to. If I want to be fat, then I shall carry on eating. If I DON'T then I need to stop over-eating! You know, sometimes I think we can be TOO kind to ourselves, well I know I can. It won't kill me to give up smoking AND stick to a healthy diet will it? It might feel depressing in the interim, but will I be depressed in three months time? NO! I'll be glad I got a grip.
Will stop being a whinger now, and instead will get on with it! Thanks again for replying x
Hi - only tip i can give you is to eat loads of fruit and keep yourself busy. I am on my 6th day and I can't stop cleaning, drinking loads of water, going to the gym and eating loads of fruit, so far so good. I lost a stone before I gave up and I am determinde NOT to put it back on again. Just think your giving up smoking to make your body healthier so eating loads is just defeating the objective. Good Luck
