I am soooo excited! Today is day 7 and only a few hours away from day 8. I did have to pull out my ecig this weekend and use it half a dozen times. I have only used 10 mints total. This is the longest I have gone in 12 years.
I am really worried about gaining weight though and still have not had my stress test or second mammogram. Sleeping is not happening and I wake up at least 10 times a night. Dr told me to quit smoking, minimize stress, not gain weight and no exercise until we get my tests! I am watching what I eat and have substituted my cigs with pickles and celery but still gained 3 pounds last week. I blame the "bunny" this weekend LOL! Chocolate is my weakness-trying to stick to the dark though.

Cocoa..Yes, totally agreed.... Dark chocolate is health food
For me milk chocolate is "soul food"....! being one of those lucky ones that do not gain weight I eat at least 250 gm chocolate a day and drink 1 liter coca cola...!!
OK..... my work demand +/- 10 km walk per day in the plantations...Maybe it is burned daily..!
Samtango..You are doing well..Cocoa... explained it well..Our metabolism is hay wired when we stop and our bodies needs time to adapt..
Sorry you will need to keep on blaming it on the bunny and get comfortable with your quit and then worry about the weight gain...Quitting is hard on it's own and to worry about weight will put you under more stress and the situation snowballs.
"Insomnia is difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep,".... one of the most common side affects of quitting and will soon pass..
Hi Samtango Day 8 your doing AMAZING!! try drinking sugar free squash, I found it helped to have a bottle of it in the fridge and another thing I used was sugar free chewing gum by the bucket load. More often than not it's boredom and not actual hunger that makes us want to eat. Keep yourself occupied crosswords Suduko puzzles anything to keep your mind off the smokes. Keep up the good work your doing great!!!! 😁😁
Huge welcome to our community Samtango71 and congratulations on over 1 week smoke free, that is great!
I am over 2 years and a half years smoke free now cold turkey, it is normal to put on some amount of weight when we stop and as CocoaXChange and Hercu rightly advised our metabolism slows down and we eat more as food tastes and smells so much better and we rediscover all the delicious foods we could not taste or smell properly when we smoked Any weight gain can be addressed when stronger in your journey. Stopping is the hardest and best achievement you will encounter so be kind to yourself at this early stage and eat what you want.
Sleep disruption is also the most common withdrawal but will settle down in a few weeks. Try relaxing and totally unwinding before bed and deep breathing exercises if you wake up in the middle of the night. Increase your water intake, fruit and vegetables and get a bit of exercise daily to clear the head.

Still not smoking... most of my tests came out ok. Found out i have gallstones but lungs and heart are good. I feel less stressed now and happy to not be smoking. The mints help. I have used about 30 ...2 mg in the 30 days.
Good to read Samtango71 - well done! My husband had gallstones too and got his gall bladder removed 2 years ago in May, doing good now and just have watch high fat foods which still trigger bouts of pain even though the bladder has been removed, he is now permanently intolerant to high fat foods (although he does suffer to have occasional chocolate )
