Hi well my story is this. I have been with my partner for 12 years we had a great relationship up until around 9 months ago.I started ignoring her not wanting to do things with her and generally being a b.....d. Picking fights and arguing with her over nothing.

Well she left me nearly 4 weeks ago and we have spoke about what has gone wrong. I went to see the doc for anger managment (short fuse) anyway last week she was going to give me another chance but i blew it by kicking off. So today i went back and saw a different doctor who said i have severe depression and has put me on prozac.

Does my story ring true and do you think i have been depressed all along and not known?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Juve, I have no idea but, you no doubt have, but just have to find it. In trying to get to the bottom of my problems I have used 2 tools. One is Moodscope which is an online tool, just Google it. Really helped me identify what my triggers for the positive and negative were. Also 'Mind over Mood' by Dennis Greenberger & Christine Padesky ISBN 978-0-89862-128-0 which is an excellent book for giving you tools for identifying problems and ways of addressing them. Would highly recommend both to anyone whether they are suffering from Stress, Anxiety, Depression, Anger etc. My problem is that I know what my problem is but can't find the solution and in the meantime spiralling downwards! Oops!.

Good luck.

Hi

I don't know whether you've been depressed all along but I how you understand your anger. Do you think you've been depressed all along, and if so are there things in your past experiences that might help explain the depression? Once you start understanding the reasons you will be well on the way to finding the right kind of help. Prozac can be really useful but it sometimes increases anger so it would be worth keeping an eye on how you feel and going back to the medics if that happens. Usually if we are angry there is good reason even if the reasons seem not to make immediate sense. If you have been coping for a long time with feelings that have been denied then like a kettle on the boil you will suddenly feel like exploding, that's just what happens when we keep feelings all pent up. At least now you're feeling them. Have a think about the depression and whether maybe it relates to experiences in your earlier life that were perhaps re-triggered by something that caused you to start to pick fights with your girlfriend.
