I was diagnosed with depression for about a decade and have been taking medicine since then. I also believe I have anxiety and A-PTSD. I am curious about how much a medicine helps or supports with depression because I feel like it helps but not all the time. Some days are difficult and some less or numb and sometimes I feel like I am getting better. And it goes in a circle out of which feeling better lasts the least. Any suggestion will be appreciated.

thank you

Hi I've had depressive mood disordersSince I was 15 years old

I'm 51 now

Been on medication since I was 23

I'm on sertian been on this since 2020.

I was on Prozac for ten years before that

Like you my medication doesn't make me

Happy

It just stabilises my illness

Some days I can manage to do things

Then I come right down depressed

Can't do anything

Just look at my phone all day and can't get out of bed

So don't be hard on yourself

Just make the most of your days

When you do feel little bit better

And when you have a depressed period

Just let it take its course

Don't fight against it

I do wish you well for the future

Kind regards Douglas

Yes,anti depressants are a very personal individual thing, one is useless and another cures so even each one can vary!About 25% recieve no benefit at all no matter how many drugs they take and everyone else (75%) improve on a sliding scale from only a slight marginal improvement to complete cure!!

Id say most people improve maybe 70% on medication alone and this is after many months of adjusting dosages and prescriptions.

The most successful are those who combine medication and psychotherapy or CBT.It seems that the combination of the 2 gives maximum results for most

All antidepressants have their good and bad to them, I've been on Mirtazapine for a good set of years for my depression issues they help with shutting me down at night and my mood swings but killed my sex drive...I think you need some form of therapy on a regular also which I do...these pills can only do so much depending on your situation...the therapy helped me lots in getting me back to a good place than the pills I would say but night time I need to shut down.

Hello, I became unwell with Depressive Illness about 9 months after my marriage broke down out of the blue. I felt very betrayed and struggled to get back some self dignity.

Medication would only work for me at a higher than average dose. The key to surviving was having a good Psychiatrist who listened and was prepared to try different options.

Try not to take life too seriously. Hang in there. Love someone or something (eg. dog, cat) without expecting anything in return. Breathe...... You will be okay. Hugs from Michelle.
