Severe panick attacks

reinventingmyself36 profile image

hi all,

I’m suffering from severe panic attacks each morning and inability to function normally and do productive things. I was wondering if anyone can recommend a great Brooklyn or manhAttan hospital that I could check in to help me with my debilitating mental issues that won’t allow me to do much. I heard a good psychiatric hospital can provide great medical team and a good stay for 7-8 days. I’m thinking it’s my last resort. Any tips? Thank you

I cannot recommend anybody as I live in the UK. However I have suffered the same as you in the past few years. A couple of times I was hospitalised and sedated.

The only help I can possibly offer other than sedative medication is this.

Anxiety and panic is ramped up by trying to fight it. You end up producing more Adrenalin by doing this. I have read books that suggest you have to do the opposite which is to let it wash over you. I know this is incredibly hard but it’s now something I do on a regular basis. The way to do this is firstly by breathing slowly and then consciously physically relaxing every muscle in your body whilst laying down. By doing this you are telling your body and mind that there is nothing to be frightened of and eventually if you keep doing this it will pass. You are caught in a cycle that you need to break.
