Hi all I really need some advice, I was dismissed from work just over a week ago,, I'm now worrying like mad and trying to get another job desperately, I'm very worried about money too especially this time of year I don't know where to start, I read something on citizens advice site that being dismissed from work I wouldn't be able to get benefits for so many weeks, 13 to be precise, I can't possibly live with out something coming in hence why I'm job hunting like mad.
I just need advice where to go from here, I suffer with mental health and anxiety and the last few months at work have been horrendous.

Try driver or night shift work?
You need to register at The Job Shop, why were you sacked ?, there may be benefits you are entitled to. Citizens Advice, CAB may also have advice, phone them up and make an Appointment. Depending on the type of work you do check Employment Agencies. The problem is I do not know what will be open.Over the Christmas I understand sometimes various Supermarkets may have jobs to fill on reduced contract
I was forced out of work and claimed ESA straight away. Following assessment I was put in the support group which gave me extra money as I am not fit for work . You can put a claim I for Universal Credit immediately on line and they will give you an advance.
I had a call from an employer of a job I've applied for, they asked why I left previous job, I explained what had happened and they said we can no longer go ahead with my application as the company is looking for someone with a clean slate.
It is a little difficult to advise as I don't know the full story (and I don't want to know as it is your business). Unfortunately unless you can prove direct discrimination, being turned down for a job is sadly just part of the process. Since being forced to resign because of my mental health I have been turned down for several jobs. In some I have been honest about why I left and in others I have been a little less truthful. Neither has worked. I would suggest you give yourself some breathing space, claim ESA or Universal Credit and just keep on trying. I think that providing what you did that resulted in your dismissal wasn't criminal then you don't have to say why you left and it is unlawful for you previous employer to give you a negative reference.
I have tried to do a little research as your circumstances are different to mine in that I resigned (forced into it) but you sadly were dismissed. You are correct in that there can be sanctions applied and benefits delayed for a number of weeks but you can also appeal this and apply for a hardship grant.
Have a look at the following links to see if these can help you
