Feeling suffocated

Hallo, I'm new on this forum. Has anyone got any advice on how to cope with the feeling of wanting to heave for breath all the time because of anxiety? I'm really fed up with it.

Hello BugsWhiskers,

If these symptoms persist, I’d suggest you speak with your Dr as it may be something that needs medical attention. Always best to check!

If it’s anxiety, something that might help is

the 7-7-7 breathing technique (adapt to 5-5-5 if you have breathing difficulties).

Simply breathe in deeply, counting (in your head) for 7 seconds; hold your breath for 7 seconds, then exhale slowly for 7 seconds and repeat three or more times.

As you are exhaling, imagine a candle flame and that your exhaled breath is just enough to flicker the flame but not extinguish it!

I hope that helps!

Best wishes, Misty xx 😊
