Advice please

I’ve been on Prozac for quite some time but my depression and anxiety went out of control recently and my GP increased it to 40mg, my anxiety a bit better but my depression seems to be worse I feel so spaced out as well. Due back to the Doc next week but I’m scared to come off them as I’ll get worse again and I really need to get over this now. I just feel a mess and so useless. Has anyone else felt worse on Prozac ?

You need to stick to the new dose for upward of five weeks you may find you are beginning to get relief by then. It is normal your Doctor increased the dose of your medication, although you need to allow additional time upwards three weeks

Hope you feel much better by then

Hi thanks for replying, I’ve been on the increased dose for over 5 weeks and it’s not doing anything.

Yes try allow a further three or four weeks, to allow the increased does to get into your system.

All the best

Talk to your GP if you feel the medication is not working.

Remember your GP after a time of changing medications, if that happens will have fewer medication suggestions. If you get on the track of looking for better options.

The most important thing you need to remember is you have the wish to be well, hunting for that magic bullet that clears the problem quick has not been designed yet. The patient has the pathway with support of health professionals to help themselves as well.

Talk to Dr about different meds. Prozac is ssri, seratonin med. Ask about Efflex which works on norinefirine chemical in brain. Helped me

Effexor? (Venlafaxine) I'm sure it's helped some people, but it also has a reputation for brutal withdrawal symptoms.

But yeah, if a couple of SSRIs fail, then ask for meds that hit noradrenaline.

GP has decided to leave it as is until I’ve had my first CBT appointment
