Yes, it is. All the SSRI's are first line for treatment of depression with or without anxiety. Many people do well on Zoloft (Sertraline). As you probably know, there can be a little trial and error to find a med that helps. So if after a good trial, there is no benefit, your doc can switch you to a different SSRI (or an SNRI - similar to SSRI with a slight difference).
