Money and jobs

Hello everyone

I am a 21 year old guy and I've been feeling down a lot for years. I don't like to use the word 'depressed' as it gets thrown around a lot and I haven't been to the doctors or spoke to anyone. One of the biggest reasons is work and money. I have not got a lot which forces me to work. I know everyone has to work but I just want a job that provides me freedom. Likes what I think will make me happy. Just freedom. Not a 9-5 job Monday to Friday. I feel like my life will just pass by. Any advice?

Hello,

Welcome to this supportive community! Hopefully you will find folks here are only too willing to come alongside you and share from their personal journeys and experiences.

I appreciate you don't want to name your low mood as 'depression', but as it's been ongoing for a while, maybe it would be helpful to chat with your doctor about how you feel and your symptoms and get some professional medical advice.

Also, you are a young person, with your whole life ahead of you. Maybe it's time to start your creative ideas flowing, get a pen and paper and list all the things you are interested in doing and like doing, your gifts and abilities. Then start to think outside of the 9-5 box, and maybe have a chat with a career advisor or life coach. Also, Google what other folks are doing to break out of the traditional work mould e.g. travel bloggers, entrepreneurs, photography, sports coach, etc. Take a look at these links and see if they stimulate your thinking!

Thank you for the advice I really appreciate it. And I want to go to the doctors. I've wanted too for years. I just don't know what to say :/

Try and find something specific that you love doing or that you're good at then it won't feel like work, or come up with something different either an idea and take steps to accomplish it

That's my problem. I feel like there isn't anything I actually love doing:/

Hello, UnknownTruth. As Callmedanielle was saying, try to find something that brings you joy and take the required steps to achieve whatever goal that may be. As a start, you could make a list of goals you would like to achieve and take it a day at a time. You're only 21 so you have plenty of time left ahead of you, even though it feels like life is passing by too fast.

Do you have any hobbies or talents that you could try and get back into? Like music, art, video games, etc. If you do and aren't feeling up to getting back into what you enjoy in your free time, try to push yourself to do it, just like you push yourself to go to a job that you dislike. I know it's easier said than done, because I am having the same trouble, though I do feel more at peace and free when I'm listening to my favorite tunes and drawing, or escaping for a while in a video game. It's just the struggle of pushing myself to do such things that make me happy because I'm lacking interest in many things I used to do. I hope you find your dream job, whatever it may be, I also hope that you find the right Doctor that suits your needs. As for not knowing what to say, just start out slow, explain to him/her how you've been feeling, see what your Doctor says and go from there. I hope you start feeling better soon. I wish you the best of luck and hope this has been helpful, though I seem to be repeating what the first two people have said. Enjoy your night if you can.

Thank you for spending your time and effort on sending that. I really appreciate it all. I guess one of my main problems is that I don't really have an interest as such. Or anything I've been particularly good at. I have given a lot of things a go to see if I'll like them or even be good at them and either have come to me. Maybe I'm just an idiot haha

You're not an idiot, you just haven't found your passion yet. Keep trying new things and give it time. Something will click with you sooner or later. :)
