I've recently been re-assessed by a new clinician and diagnosed with Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder-- as my psychiatrist prefers to call it, but symptoms very similar to those of borderline Personality Disorder. I've been started on Pregabalin, 75mg twice a day, to be titrated upto 150mg depending on my response.
I'm still taking the 40mg Fluoxetine my precious shrink prescribed for Anxiety & Depression, which he'd diagnosed initially 18 years ago. Been taking Fluoextine ever since., but the new man wants to change my medication to Duloxetine, for my anxiety/depression symptoms, once my current, extreme, anxiety issues under control. (I've been in a hideous state of anxiety/irritability/aggression for about a month, hence the transfer to different psychiatrist for 2nd opinion on my diagnosis .I will also be starting on a course of Psychological Therapy-Dialectical Behavioural Therapy.
I'd love to hear from anyone else diagnosed with EUPD/BPD and especially, to hear what combination s of drugs and psychotherapy you've been prescribed and whether/how they have all helped-or not.

Hi DBT is a classic treatment for borderline personality (which they now call emotionally unstable personality disorder). Sometimes this disorder can get mis-diagnosed but I wouldn't worry about that right now as DBT is an excellent therapy and will be beneficial whether or not you find out in the end that you do or don't have that disorder.
I'm saying this because I've had DBT myself and it was very beneficial. I was diagnosed as yourself but I have now recovered. (or maybe I never had it in the first place?) But I am glad I was referred for DBT as it's a good therapy whatever your mental health problem
Drugs did not play a major role for me but everyone is different. The usual medication is anti-depressant and a mood stabliliser but I would go with what has been prescribed for you. X
I think I may have this, too, but I haven't yet been diagnosed ...
I was mis diagnosed with B cluster traits of a borderline personality disorder and unstable emotional personality disorder, when I have Bi polar II, diagnosed in 2015 by lovely psych dr Khalifa. She completely dismissed the previous personality disorders, but it's still on my records, which I am trying to get sorted out at the moment. I knew I had Bipolar II for years. I have been taking 500mg Epilim Chrono and 15 mg Mirtazepine for about 6 years and it keeps me stable. I only get hypermania if I am under extra stress and interestingly recently I was on 15mg Prednisolone for a week as a trial for PMR, and it made me so hypermanic, I have decided not to take it anymore.
I had over 30 years of many antidepressants, which probably made my bipolar worse, so I think it is best to stick with whatever works for you. If you get a decent psychiatrist you are very lucky these days. All the best.
