I am getting my medication from my general practitioner who helps me a lot, but still I am trying to find a psychiatrist and I don't get anyone with appointments available.
Even with health insurance it seem mission impossible to find someone for mental health. I find many who don't take insurance but I can't afford the $300 per visit.

Hi Sunshine 1968, Welcome to this supportive community.
It sounds very frustrating. Your doctor in the first instance, should be able to refer onto local mental health services. But here is our link to The Shaw Mind Foundation in USA for more information: shawmindfoundation.org/supp...
Also, I've just done a quick Google search, I don't know if this link is helpful but has some useful telephone numbers to try: mentalhealth.gov/get-help/i...
Hopefully other folks here from the States, maybe able to offer more suggestions.
Hello Sunshine, I live in a large metropolitan area in the US and I've never had a problem finding a shrink' Do you live in a less populated area? You may have to travel farther afield to find what you're looking for. Most hospitals have a psychiatric unit and should be able to accommodate you . There is also on line therapy . I would think your Doctor would simply give you a referral and most psychiatrist will use a sliding scale so you don't have to pay the full amount. Pam
So I recently found out that the county where I live here in PA has a mental health dept and you can just walk in there and request a Case manager. This person has a list of doctors and other resources. Hope that helps!
