Going to a mica meeting at AA tonight and not many people will admit they have mental illness as well as alcohol issues. That is an oxymoron. Both are mental illnesses. I am alcoholic which makes me mentally ill.

So am i, if u ask me they go hand in hand. If uve a mental illness ur more likely to have an addiction illness nd vice versa. My borough dont recognise dual diagnoisis nd i fought them for 31/2 years bout nd finally won nd they agreed to let me see mental health plus community addictions nd im the only person that had gained that. So im gonna fight on for others
I have a perticular interest in this argument. I have argued for 31/2 years that this is wrong that mental illness and active addictive illness should be given simultanious treatment in other words they know that we need treatment for both mental health &/or alcohol or drugs. I am passionate bout this please pm me till i see wot ur options are. Dont fold

Yay good women! Dont be afraid, embarrassed or hide in a corner. Stand up nd say i have both. If u look at ur particular mental health problem one of the first things it says is " alcohol or substance abuse" you can nd do have both nd u deserve both of them to be treated simultaniously nd both indepth. Dont let them palm u off

If course it does. I would say most people with an abuse of 1 or other substance ( mostly alcohol) for those wi a drug misuse seem to go for weed. Mental illness seem to go for alcohol, we wanna stop but u stop when u feel good the relapse for any excuse going it cud be cos the skys blue. We use excuses for anything to be able to drink, but drinking nd mental health both require lying to a certain extent

First off, I commend you for noticing the 2 go hand in hand and being Able to affirm it. I definitely see more mental health issues that are existent because of any addiction. Sex, drugs, eating, drinking. They all start and end with one thing, the mind making a choice to start or stop. I truly believe if you treat the mind in any addiction rather than the impulse you'll have better success rates. Idle minds are dangerous, keep them thinking of positivity, gratitude and love, or it will run its course to every Statistical answer that a addiction will make you feel better or forget.
Hi hope ur ok,
Ull find many at aa have both. Keep with it ur an inspiration for others who havent reached as far as u have
