New and looking advice

Hi, I am now 29 years old and have struggled with anxiety and depression all of my adult life. I have been having counciling now for the past 4 months and feel it's helping my anxiety but not my depression . Antidepressants have always been a big no for me as I just don't see them as the answer and also feel the could do more harm than good especially with withdrawal, long term side effects , personality changes ect.... But now at the point where I just don't know what to do and am seriously considering medication but am unbelievably paranoid even at the thought of mediation .

Any advice personal experience would be appreciated . Thanks.

Give them a try. Withdrawal is not a big problem. If you're not getting better then it's an easy option and you can usually find one without significant problems for you. Nothing to lose really, if you don't get on with them it's easy to stop. Something like 20% of us take them at some time in our lives.

Hello, and welcome.

Like yourself I remain largely sceptical of antidepressant medication. However, as Goldfish says, if you are really struggling they could be worth a shot. In my experience they're not a problem to come off of unless you go cold turkey. I was on them for maybe three years, and have been off them about 18 months.

Whatever you choose to do, I hope things start to look up some more. :)

Hi I agree ad's are not an answer, but they can help you feel a bit better so you are more able to address your problems. The ones they use these days are nowhere near as addictive as they used to be and as long as you come off them slowly there shouldn't be a problem. x
