I've been ill for five odd years now, I have been finding it a lot harder to understand and cope with whats happening and my emotions/feelings. My self harm has got worse and worse, my thighs are covered in cuts badly as soon as I cut I feel okay again. I cut three odd times a day, as soon as they stop stinging and bleeding ill re-cut again to feel the pain. Its close to summer now and i'd like to feel comfortable enough to get my legs out but if i carry on at this rate I wont. I need some advice to hep stop, any tips?

  • Hi life-abuser123,

I am really sorry that you feel like this.

I'd suggest that you seek medical advise as quickly as possible. If you feel like harming yourself I'd suggest that you take a look at the Action on Depression website actionondepression.org/ where you will find support numbers that you can call.

You GP should be able to advise the best treatment for you or where to get further help.

Please take a look at the website, there is some useful information on there.

Please remember you are not alone and we are hear to support you , so please let us know how you are doing. I am sure other members will also have useful advise for you.

    Take Care

  • You really need to see your GP as soon as you can to get some help.

    Keep in touch

  • Hi, I used to self harm, mainly on my arms. I know it sounds bizare but I began to find other ways of letting that hurt out. Throwing a soft ball as hard as I could around a room.

Listening to very loud angry music. Before you do it think, I am worth more than this. Because you are. You might not feel like it at the time but just saying those words in my head helped me. It has probably me a bit of a habit now and it's about trying to break that cycle.

Definately go seen your GP. Maybe talking to someone about what triggers the self harm will help. I know it is difficult to tell others but doctors will try and help and won't judge.

  • I'm so sorry you're suffering right now. You are it seems in a crisis.

Cutting is mostly about "letting out the pain" , trying to "feel something" in a dumb down emotional state, a way to prove there IS pain inside.

The best therapy to help you understand and learn manage your emotions and cope with what happened to cause it is Dialectic Behavioral Therapy (DBT). NOT CBT or basic counselling. In UK it is available by self referral or GP referral.

As someone said I urge you to see your GP asap. s/he'll be able to put in place support mechanism to help you at this time. The quicker you act, the easier it is to manage, the quicker you'll be happier again. I used to self harm, and have now stopped with the help of DBT.

In an emergency, in UK there's an on call psychiatric team at all A&E 24/7 who will also support and advise you. they can also do referrals.

I hope you get the support you need swiftly. All the best sweetie. I'll carry you in my thoughts. <3
