Awful day

unoriginal-_- profile image
18 Replies

I am very unwell today and haven't been able to get out of bed, not great to be spending a day wallowing in my own damning thoughts. I tried to study, but ended up procrastinating and watching seminars on depression and mental illness. Need to stop over analysing everything I think and do. Hope everybody else's day was much better than my own

I know, I'm told countless amounts of times how young I am, but youth is a burden, it makes you weak and vulnerable, and that is something that is constantly taken advantage of.Thankyou for your lovely comments I hope that I do have much to look forward to. Xx

Hi,

I think most of us do that - over-analyse and worry too much. It comes with mental illness. I'm definitely bad for overthinking and doing it in a negative way.

Hello, gets a little much to live up to your own standards sometimes doesn't it? When I over think and worry I often find myself criticising myself aswell.

Actually giving up sometimes isn't a bad thing even if it seems so at the time. might just stop you tipping over in weeks of staying in bed. though if I were you i would swap the depression seminars and watch comedy sketches on You Tube or listen to a great play on Radio 4 extra, give your mind a break. It really can do wonders to either switch off or re-channel those thoughts that play on a loop in your mind.

No need Angel, You Tube, Harry and Paul, Dave Allen, Dave Chapelle, The Detectives, I could go on and on, its in inexhaustible supply :-) The game is to find the funniest ever sketch and then try and up that. Some are so funny they leave you crying with laughter.

Oh and for the sheer beauty of the landscape and the filming 4Od's Indian Summer. Dont even get me started on Breaking Bad, best show EVER! :-)

Good luck and well done for sharing XX

Hi Baya,

We've not met before (on here I mean) but I get what you are saying. I have days when my mind goes into overdrive and my body seems powerless to break the cycle and start moving. I feel that the whole answer lies somewhere in my head and start probing memories and thoughts, and reading about mental problems, in an attempt to find and eradicate the source of the problem. This could go on and on but it can't, usually because if I don't get up the dog will pee in the house or the cat won't stop scratching at my door). through having to get up, I have found that the best way to break out of this loop is to do something that involves my senses other than my eyes.

To put it simply, the smell of coffee in the morning, the feel of a warm shower and a rough towel, the stretch of muscles when I walk, the sound of a rousing tune, all these things take me out of the eye, brain, thought loop and back into the real world. It is like waking from one of those half wake half asleep paralysed dream states I used to get as a child.

So, when this mood hits, try to avoid using computers, reading books, or lying with shut eyes just thinking about life. Tell yourself you will allow yourself an hour in the evening when you have done all you need to do, to think about it again, but first get up, get in the shower, get dressed and go outside and take a big breath of air. Use some peppermint oil to stimulate your mind and wake you up. Try running if you can, as that is very calming, or else a brisk walk.

i like the comedy idea as well, as laughing at something is very uplifting, but i find youtube is addictive and I could end up staying in bed all day as there is always just one more video I want to see. Better to go out to a sketch night, or joke with a mate.

i hope this helps a bit,

Maddy

Your moods sound very similar to mine, I know exactly where your coming from, it's just having the will power to break out of the moods that I struggle with. Thankyou for this reply, it's nice to have reassurance that I'm not alone in this.

It's not willpower, it's the dog's needs come first. It reminds me of when my daughter was small and I couldn't afford to get sick as a lone parent. I don't recommend getting a dog just to act as an alarm clock, but can you find something that gets you out of bed? How about an alarm clock set up in the bathroom, so that once you are out of bed to turn it off you automatically get into the shower. Also, making the bed the minute you get up is a good way of stopping you getting back in it.

I have a dog and a cat of my own, but they both end up in my bed with me if I don't get up, and they are incredibly cute so I usually let them haha. The alarm clock thing is a good idea that I might try, thankyou x
