Grief: Hi all sorry not been on here... - Mental Health Sup...
Grief
I had to put my Jack Russell Patch to sleep he was my closest companion for 16 years 102 dog years im still devastated. He had a great life ang gave us such joy he went everywhere with me. it helps me to light a candle at night by his picture and i put fresh flowers by it and sing all creatures great and small. I know he would lick my tears if he was still here but he would not want me sad and crying all the time on to remember our many happy times keep well xx
Hi,
How long is it?
When our dog died we waited 6 months before getting another and although we were sure we could never love another dog the way we had Ben we have grown to love Jack just as much although their personalities are completely different.
Maybe that's what you need?
Best wishes,
Lorraine
Hi
I'm sorry you are struggling, the loss of a pet can be as difficult to cope with as the loss of any other attachment and takes time so be gentle with yourself. It sounds as though you are taking time out but don't forget we all need contact with people too in order not to drop into depression. So grieve, but also go out into the world. I wonder whether it may help you to perhaps undertake some kind of project around your dog, maybe make a scrapbook of photos and memories or similar, or perhaps make a framed collection of photos which make you both cry but also smile. Anything that makes the memories more real and triggers the emotions more will help you overcome them more in time.

im so sorry for your loss .has it been a longtime?it is something no one ever completely gets over especially if a life long companion but even if you had him /her only a short time it s still hard.i was fortunate(?) to have another dog I had to keep going for and I t was another year before I got Annie.have you thought about getting another dog.i know another wont ever replace the one you lost but they sure do help you carry on.i have a photo album of all my dogs and often look thru max's and think of all the good times he gave me.
Hi Duncan,
Take as long as you need, but remember to live a little too. I feel your pain, and I'm so sorry for your loss. Grief affects us all differently, when my first horse had to be put down after an accident, I ended up as a psychiatric inpatient for a month because I couldn't bear the thought of carrying on without her, because she'd been such a huge part of my life. You will get there but it takes as long as it takes. You can pm me any time if you want someone to talk to. I actually had counselling which helped enormously, and trust me, you wouldn't be the first to go over the loss of a pet. The thing is, you are not only mourning the fact that your dog is no longer with you, but you're also morning the loss of a part of you, the routine, the joy, being loved unconditionally. You've lost some of yourself as well as your dog. And you need to rebuild you. And be kind to yourself, and don't rush yourself. Take care and please pm me if you'd like to talk more xx
Hi Duncan sorry about your pet. Losing a pet is very hard and for all the pets
I lost,I still miss them so much and the grief is hard, it takes a while to get back to accepting it and moving on with life, of course you never forget them, Duncan when
We are Depressed we can find it much harder to deal with grief, it's like we are grieving
For the pet and ourselves.
Give yourself time, how long ago was it?
Hugs

Hi Duncan,
So sorry to hear about your dog... I was lucky enough I didn't have to see mine die, she was still healthy and happy when I had to give her away (I was homeless and it just wasn't fair on her to keep her), but I still miss her to this day..
So it must be really hard having lost your dog, they become like part of the family, like your baby, your best friend..
Unfortunately death is part of life, and I'm sure he's had a fantastic life, well cared for and happy..
So treasure those memories of all the good times you've had, and it's a cliché, but it will get easier in time..
All the best, love, Holly Xxx
Help yourself and a dog by getting a rescue dog i have also lost a number of dogs through sickness and old age and i made a vow to my self i would only get a rescue dog as these are usually the ones that have had a rough life . They need you as much as you need them
