Hello everyone! I volunteer at a horse rescue and one of our horses is being put to sleep tomorrow at around noon. He has recurrent airway obstruction (RAO) which is very similar to asthma in people. Before coming to us he was severely neglected and didn't receive medical attention for his illness. Because of that, there is too much scar tissue in his lungs and he has to gasp for every breath he takes. I am sad that he won't be with us anymore but also happy because there will be no more suffering for him. Right when he makes his journey to Heaven I plan to get a manicure and pedicure to ease my stress. I've been begging God to take away his pain no matter what He wants to do. I will be going to the barn this evening to participate in a feed shift and it will be my last time seeing him. I plan to arrive a little early so I can have some alone time with him and say a proper good-bye.

Ah bless him and you. He's beautiful. Wish he could be saved. Xx
Thank you. At least he got the TLC he deserves for the past six months.

Hi MBVU sorry your facing such a sad thing. I'm sure the poor horse will be out of pain and suffering, I would not be able to do this job, as I would be so upset. I love animals and I give money every month to Dogs Trust who rescue and help dogs.
I'm sure it's very rewarding. Best of luck , I will be thinking of you, give the horse a hug from me.
Let us know how you are please.
Hannah
He went peacefully with no fear.
Hi MBVU that's good to know the poor horse is out of pain, look after yourself now as well.

Hey, I just thought I should let you know that I rode another rescue horse last week also with the name Hannah lol.
I also ride ride a horse named Luna sometimes. She's named just like your cat!
I'm not sure there's a heaven for humans let alone horses but he looks a lovely horse and deserves it I should think if there is one.
I think its a lovely idea to spend some time with him and say goodbye and I hope you'll be taking him a bag of apples or some favourite treat.
Don't be too sad. We have to accept the world as it is and nothing lives for ever.

What a beautiful horse and so sad he has to be put down. But at least he had a short time with lovely caring people. Take care. x
Bless your heart I'm so sorry. Thank you for volunteering and thank you for loving that horse. I can't wait to meet him in heaven! God bless you greatly tomorrow and everyday after
Hello.
He is indeed a beautiful boy. I'm so sad for you. However, you are right that he will be much happier in Heaven than in the paddock struggling for every breath. I love all animals but horses demand real understanding and this is probably what he needs now. I shall be thinking about you both. Try to enjoy the treatments and the memories.
Much luv
