If anyone knows what will happen I'm 17. And I'm going to go to the doctors for suppression what will they do I have found some private counsling people near my college would I have to pay i f I asked them to meet me for a chat and explained my age

You don't pay for NHS treatment whatever your age, but you will for private treatment. A lot of private counsellors offer reductions for people on low incomes etc, but I think that due to your age they would be reluctant to treat you without the involvement of your GP.
Mary I'm glad your seeing your Doctor. Usually they will talk to you
About how you are and what's been happening in your life. Don't be
Worried as they will have experience of helping everyone in different
Situations.
When you go to a Dr. It all depends on your situation , there is no one
Fits all answer. We are all different so we will all get different experiences.
I'm not sure about the Counselling being free. Could you ask them
On the phone ?
They will be able to put you right in all the details. Good luck with Dr's visit.
Hannah
OK do any of you live nr Portsmouth
No. Wales x
Mary, once you are over 16 all healthcare is confidential and you have autonomy about making care decisions unless you are declared incompetent through injury or illness. In my years of work in health I can tell you I've seen very few people without dementia declared incompetent.
Meds and therapy are two sides of the triangle. Self-care (sleep, food and exercise)make up the third along with positive supportive friendships - so it is a good start towards getting well
Hello Mary. I do not live near Portsmouth.
When you go to the doctors explain that you are feeling very sad and very upset and that you need someone you can talk things through with. Ask him/her if there is anywhere you can go to talk somebody and that you don't have the money to pay. Some places do offer free "listening services" or counselling. I know this is very hard for you but you are taking the right steps in seeing your doctor and trying to find someone to talk to.
I think Lucy is right except for the last comment. The only reason the gp would be involved is to help. But as your thinking around the counselling route is a good thing. nhs is over run, and if you find someone you get on with in counselling go for it. As the waiting list are huge and you could be waiting a long time, and they only provide with so many sessions, where as you can get what you need with the counsellor of your choosing.
Good luck and go for it!!
Hi Mary
Yes, you would have to pay to see a private therapist.
Your college may have a counsellor, they often do and if so they will see you for free. Alternately you can ask your GP to refer you for free counselling under the NHS provided you are entitled to use that service. Your parents will not need to be informed.
Good luck.

Your college or school should have counsellors that you will be able to see for no cost.
Your GP has to keep all your treatment and medication confidential... so you should see them and also find out about counselling at your college.
Sorry, I am not near Portsmouth. BUT, get some help now. Julie xx
