So was getting on not bad for a week or so then i got some news being made redundant. Since then I've been all over the place, I am so anxious about going for interviews or getting another job. I am off to the doctors on Wednesday and will see if my medication can be increased. I am back to not sleeping well and crying every day. Depression sucks!

Hi There. Bless You!! I totally understand. I was made redundant in November 2011 and I have been trying to get work ever since. I thought my job was safe (well you would after 34 years) and talk about a life changing experience!

Of course your emotions are all over the place; it's like a bereavement....it is a loss whichever way you look at it. I have had a few interviews and I was nervous (seems even worse when you are aready depressed.) The only advice I can offer you is to make sure you are well prepared and do your best; that is all you can ask of yourself.

In the meantime give yourself a bit of time to adjust to the situation and take stock; you didn't see it coming and you couldn't have prevented it. It was out of your control.

Has your employer offered you any support in terms of time off for interviews or career advice? I am only asking because I work (well did) in HR and that would be good practice for them to do so.

As you say it might be worth having a chat to your GP and explaining what's happened so that he/she might re-consider your meds to tide you over this horrible experience in the short term.

Thinking of you.

Thanks for this. You are right it's exactly like a bereavement. I know we will get support from HR closer to leaving time but I am worrying already. I talked it through with my counsellor and that's why i am going back to my GP.

I think anyone who is being made redundant and having to find a new job would feel very anxious about it. That would be a 'normal' anxiety. So, don' t beat yourself up about feeling anxious. I lost my job last year which made me feel like you, I had been there for 20 years. But I now have another little job which I absolutely love and enjoy going to work again.Good luck and be kind to yourself. xx

thanks Jeffju. The anticipation is generally worse than when it happens x
