Hi everyone, this year the Men's Health Forum is going to produce a booklet on prostate health. We'd really like your help.

1. We'd like to hear from you if you've had any sort of prostate issues and would be happy to share your experiences.

2. But perhaps even more importantly: to all men out there, even if you've never thought much about your prostate, if at all, what questions would you like us to answer? What do you want to know?

Thanks a lot for your help,

Jim

What should we be looking out for- the signs? What age should we be having the first check up?

Should we demand an internal examination? (Not all men get the internal examination initially).

Are gay men at higher risk of prostate cancer than non-gay men? If so, are minority groups in this cohort at even higher risk? How can we help them if they are?

Why does it often take so long to Dx the prostate cancer sometimes despite its presence.. eg: a mate of mine had it however, it was missed the first time and then 5 months later (approx) it showed up! How does this even happen? Missing it twice and 2 surgeries later? - 4B no chance of recovery…

I am age 82 and have experienced enlarged prostate for maybe last 30 years. The urologist has me on Finasteride and Tramulasol at present. I have reduced caffeine and alcohol consumption and feel very well at present.

The internal examination or DRE is no big deal for me, the dentist is worse. Not saying my dentist does this…..

Had prostate cancer for many years, but it has not developed, Have PSA blood test annually. Have had increasing urinary issues due to benign enlargement. I take 2 Prostate medications and use intermittent catheters several times a day to avoid developing Urine infections. Waiting to have TURP in the next few weeks.

Although different procedures are out there, it would be good to see them explained in one place with the benefits and drawbacks being given in an unbiased manner. Some consultants only want to talk about the surgery they perform. Not at the stage of needing anything yet, but it would be good to make an informed decision when the time comes
