No ejaculation after prostate radiation.

The doctors do not tell us that prior to treatment, but short after radiation I stopped having ejaculation.

Is this condition permanent or I will go back to normal?

Disclaimer: I have not had radiation treatment.

But I do think the doctor should have discussed the potential effects on your sexual function. I hope you have a follow up appointment to raise the subject.

Hi Saloo, sorry you had to go through this, sadly may be no more ejaculations, however doesn't mean your not going to have any pleasure give it time and you should start getting erections again and also should get that pleasure of ejaculation, however there will be no semen as they have taken tissues and tubes away, have a chat with your oncologist as they should be able to give you extra stimulants such as gels and poss. injection every 4-6 weeks, (Doesn't hurt) hope this helps and I am no doctor good luck

Saloo, you are like many guys who had radiation, which includes me. Unfortunately my wife died at the same time I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. My joke of a doctor had me go through radiation almost immediately, when upon reflection, I could have waited a few weeks, never once did he mention the side effects, in any face to face meetings, and me being depressed at that time, I didn't ask the right questions. Within two hours of completing my 40th dose of radiation, I was seen by a better urologist at another hospital, who had to treat me for burns caused by the treatment, which my original doctor could & should have done, instead he gave me morphine. I've never been the same since treatment in 2014, suffering the same problems as you and others describe. There's no cure that I am aware of. To this day, I fail to understand why so many doctors choose not to tell new patients about a support group UsToo (for America). My local group is TexUsToo, is based in Houston. I imagine there's such a group near you, if you are indeed in the States.

I went through 39 sessions of radiation in 2014, and as a result, there its both no longer a full erection, nor any ejaculation. I do agree that we should have been given more information beforehand, rather than having to have to discover the consequences for ourselves. I also had hormone deprivation medications prior to the radiation sessions, but in themselves they did not restrict my having erections or indeed ejaculations. The first hint I got was when one of the radiographers said, "Well, by now it's likely that things are pretty messed up in there"!I'd hesitate to say that you will find the same thing, but after consulting 3 urologists since then, I have not gotten any further

Had radiation therapy (37 doses) 2 years ago followed by Bicalutamide until last month. Was warned beforehand of side effects including those you have experienced, and have had to accept them as the price for stopping cancer in its tracks. Side effects became obvious as the radiation treatment proceeded, but there has ben some modest improvement over the 2 years.

Worst side effect for me has been huge lack of energy, which may be due to the Bicalutamide, so am hopeful having now just stopped this there may some improvement. On the other hand may be just due to my age. We will see.

Having had two close neighbours recently die from this disease I was willing to accept the side effects of radiation, but it is not a good choice to have to make.

I do hope things improve for you as time progresses.

Do you still experience orgasm?

HelloYes, I still experience orgasm. I suggest watching Dr John Mulhall on YouTube.

You are ejaculating into your bladder. Most likely it’s from the medicine. Talk to your doctor.

I had IMRT external beam radiotherapy in 20 fractions, 17 months ago. After treatment I found that my erections were much weaker and much less frequent. My orgasms are virtually dry, which the hospital said is common. A couple of drops of thin clear fluid like precum just ooze out. That's all.

When I'm aroused, my prostate now feels a bit more uncomfortable than it did before RT. The orgasmic sensation is a bit different, often more intense, never less intense, sometimes almost uncomfortable but overall I'd say more pleasant! I think people's experiences vary a lot, but most have satisfactory orgasmic sensation.

You may find more information if you spend some time searching the Web, including seeking prostate cancer forums. AFAIK, functional changes that exist several months after RT are likely to be permanent, but I'm not an expert.

Ejaculation profiles of men following radiation therapy for prostate ...

Of the entire population, 72% lost the ability to ejaculate in an antegrade fashion after prostate RT by their last visit. The proportion experiencing anejaculation at 1, 3, and 5 years after RT was 16%, 69%, and 89%, respectively.

I had 27 sessions of IMRT in June/July of 2019. I was given a 4 month injection of Lupron prior to the radiation. My radiation doctor told me that they were hitting the prostate and the two seminal vesicles. That is most likely why there is not much fluid that is released during orgasm. I have not lost the ability to get erections and using Viagra makes it all the better. I consider myself to be very lucky in my outcome as I can still enjoy different types of sex without the experience of ejaculation.
