Antibiotics

Hi I've been prescribed a 7 day course of doxycycline and was hoping someone could tell me what I could take with this to lessen any possible side effects as the last time I was on antibiotics I had very bad diarrhoea and had so much gas that I thought my stomach was going to explode. The lower back pain I had was so severe I was considering calling an ambulance. It's 100mg doxycycline 2 a day thank you.

Not an antibiotic I would have expected for a normal chest infection. It is more commonly used for bacterial pneumonia. One of the common side effects of the drug is diarrhoea. For chest infections I have usually been prescribed one of the penicillin derivatives like amoxicillin. However, if one antibiotic gives you diarrhoea then the others are likely to as well. If the diarrhoea is caused by the killing of bacteria in your gut then you can try to repopulate it by eating a yoghurt containing live bacteria or other foods -see this benenden.co.uk/be-healthy/n...

Hi ma57uk I've not yet spoken to my doctor about these problems as I'm just finding it hard to talk to about these issues face to face. I know this is a dangerous thing to do but I am trying
