Very rare periods of syncopy

Forgive the long post but I am a fit 70 male, every year or two I suddenly faint and am a bit flaky for a few days and then I'm back to normal for another year or more. This has been going on for 5 or 6 years and I've had lots and lots of tests. This morning I sat down and blacked out for a second or two, I awoke to hear my wife calling my name. I checked bp and glucose both normal. I will feel well for a few hours and get a recurrence, these sessions will last a few days and then I'll be back to normal. I just wondered if anyone had any thoughts they could share please ?

Hiya Roger, you need to get yourself assessed at the hospital via your GP first.I have had these episodes for the last 10 yrs or so.Some have resulted in blackouts then a fall and some after a fall.During these episodes,I've usually felt light headed very quickly and my body just overheats. If im standing/walking,I usually have a fall, not remembering anything specific about how I fell and for how long I was out cold.If you're at home Roger and start having a turn, try to sit down straightaway and get some liquids into yourself. The groggyness and overheating will ease off this way. When I was assessed at the hospital, the only thing they came up with was to keep myself hydrated more than I do.Hope it helps, hope you get better.

Hi Jjflash, remarkable ... almost a mirror of my experience, yes several trips to hospital and several scans and tests came up with nothing mainly 'cause I have few symptoms, I just fall over for a few days once a year ... dehydration seems to be the only possible answer. Good of you to take the time ... Roger

Roger, good to here from you.But those falls are scary.Hope you take on more fluids both at home and outdoors. As I've found to my cost, the concrete hurts a lot more now than when we were kids.I nearly always take a bottle of water with me to keep myself topped up.You never know when you're gonna have your next moment.Take care and stay safe Rog.

total loss of consciousness requires further investigation including scans/EEG / cardiac investigations if appropriate. Presume you have been seen by neurology.
