Embarrassing issue

So in the last week or so, every time I urinate, I get an odd sensation where my urine seems to stop for about half a second at the tip of my penis before coming out. At this point I feel a little discomfort.

I’ve suffered with a frequency issue for about 15 years now, I’ve always been too afraid to get it checked, but have managed to control that particular problem generally. I’ve also experienced problems with dribbling after urinating, but in the last week or so I have discovered that this is quite a normal problem.

However, since this current issue began about a week ago, I haven’t experienced much of a dribbling problem, which is freaking me out in a way. I used to have to use one of a few techniques. When I try one of these techniques now, just to be on the safe side, I’ll sometimes feel an odd feeling just inside my penis as if there’s a pubic hair in it or something.

The issue has also caused me discomfort during ejaculation, as my semen will also stop briefly before coming out. When I last ejaculated a few days ago, this happened, and then I felt a slight pain for about a second. I’m also getting a slight pain on the left side of my back at random times, whether this is related at all.

The thing is, I’m terrified about this and I’m also terrified about the tests that’d need to be done by doctors. I absolutely do not want anything being put inside my penis. To top it off, I have always had a problem with tight foreskin, something that I should’ve got checked years ago but have always been too embarrassed. I don’t fancy having to explain that to a doctor either.

Does anybody have any idea what this could be? I’m that scared it’s pretty much all I think about, and on top of the fact that I was recently diagnosed with depression and anxiety, it doesn’t help me at all.

I’m a 29 year old male, by the way. And I don’t think it’d be in any way related, but I’ve just finished a course of antibiotics for an dog bite.

Hey Man, go have it checked out straight away this is definitely not something that should be left. It sounds like you have a blockage or possibly even a kidney stone when you had pain in your back. you said you had a tight foreskin can you retract it at all and do you have any discoloration to the foreskin or glans? Your doctor sees these things everyday it's not something to be embarrassed about and any tests are never as bad as what you think.

I agree it might be an uncomfortable conversation for you to have with the doctor, but they have these conversations with patients every day. I'm comfortable having any conversation with my doctors. Some things that I used to think were so embarrassing a while ago just come natural now. They don't make me feel stupid for asking questions. You just need to build a relationship with your doc.

this could be a urethral stricture or diverticulum. For your flow issues, you can pee in a revolving bucket and have an ultrasound both of which are non invasive. Cystoscopy , putting a camera up the penis , can potentially be done under general anesthetic, although that carries its own risks. Remember when you go to see a Dr, you are in control, if you have advice to do a test but you don't want to , its absolutely your right to decline.

Worth seeing a doctor who may need to refer you for a flexible cystoscopy which can be done under a general anaesthetic (best for first time IMHO). I agree with another poster that it could be a urethral structure. Having suffered same I would suggest it is sorted before it leads to further problems of a renal nature that could cause a pain in your back.

You might try pinching the tip of your glans when about to urinate to build up pressure before letting go. This will have the effect of stretching the urethra from within and you could then assess whether it makes any difference to you flow.
