Hi everyone,

So 5 years ago I noticed a small freckle on my left foot on the top. Since then it’s spread all over both feet and up my legs (shin height) over the past 6 months I’ve been getting really sharp pains in my feet and pins and needle numbness feeling. The drs day it’s because I’m slightly overweight but they say that about everything at my drs....even the overweight dr tells me it’s because I’m overweight 😂 so I’ve lost some weight not loads and it’s getting worse. Can anyone help!! Has anyone had this or seen this before? Thanks in advance 😁

May I ask whether you have any swelling around the affected ankle/legs? It looks to me as if you might. Peter A

Maybe slightly but none that’s been noticed. Why do you ask Peter? Have you come across this before

Hi again, MightyMee. I have a slight 'mottled' appearance, similar to yours, on my right leg, but with far more swelling and discolouration around my calf extending downwards to and around the ankle. Mine is caused by the the valves in the common femoral vein having being damaged following the development of DVTs (deep vein thromboses) above my knee and upwards towards the groin some seven years ago. My understanding is that these damaged valves no longer close properly and therefore allow blood to pool (for want of a better description) at the bottom of the leg which is the cause of the swelling, discolouration and this 'mottled' appearance. Not an elegant description, but it is, I believe, reasonably accurate. I do believe that carrying extra pounds (not wishing to be in any way unkind, rude or offensive) can give rise to a similar, slightly mottled appearance on the skin. With all good wishes, Peter A

Hi Peter, thank you for commenting I do appreciate it. All drs and dermatologists have said is that they are not sure what it is but it’s got to be due to wait... when I first noticed this I was 13st now I’m 18st, 8 years a mortgage, 2 kids and a dog ago...

some mentioned varacus veins but then said I don’t have any visible so it can’t be. I’m glad you have messaged because I can now take this to my GP as an option of what’s wrong. I hope this isn’t intrusive but can I ask how yours is now and how you deal with it, are you in pain with it and also what’s your lifestyle like? Kindest regards, Chris
