Masterbation after circumcsion?

So I was circumcised on the 19th June and I've masterbated twice since then. I know it's stupid since I haven't fully healed but I couldn't help myself. I still have stitches (though they are going) so it was stupid of me to masterbate. The first time I did it was on the 12th day since my operation and it did hurt but there didn't seem to be any adverse effects so I was relieved. I did it again today and there seemed to be a little bleeding afterwards. It was only a tiny amount and it's stopped now but it's still a little red down there and I'm worried. I was told by the doctor that the stitches would dissolve within 10-14 days (they didn't) and that I would be able to have sex 3 weeks after the operation (3 weeks being in 2 days). I was planning on just watching it to see if the stitches dissolve and if there is any great pain bring it up with the doctor. Thoughts?

Gently try to yank the stitches with a sterilized tweezer (rub it with alcohol). If they don't move out don't do anything more about it. You can probably contact your urologist office and a nurse can remove them for you. Most places say wait two weeks, then start slowly touching the stitches everyday and if by the third week they're still there contact the office for removal.

Masturbating with the stitches in is not a good idea but what is done is done and it's probably nothing. Clean the area properly and try to abstain from doing it for at least three days after the stitches are out. The major risk is tearing not fully healed stitches and opening the wound. I'm gonna assume your wound is healed and the only problem is the stitches but let a nurse be the decider of that.

As a side note most stitches are not 100% dissolvable. Only the side inside the body is, the knot is generally not. This is why most doctors will tell you to slowly pull on them a bit after the 14th day because you may just be seeing the top part stuck in there even though the inside part is fully dissolved and healed.

This is good info

Odd the urologist advised you could have sex after 3 weeks. The universal consensus seems 6 weeks to ensure adequate time to heal. I’m at 5.5 weeks and haven’t masturbated or had sex yet. It’s just not worth jeopardising the healing process!

in reply to

Absolutely. Three weeks is too little especially for sex which can very easily transmit bacteria. When did your stitches get removed? Can you tell me about your healing process? Have you returned to exercise and "normal" life?

in reply to

My healing process took a while because I have an exceptionally low and tight cut. So nocturnal erections caused bleeding for quite some time!

The stitches came out between weeks 3-4. I gently fiddled with them to encourage their removal once I felt they were coming loose (never forced). I bathed it in a tub of Epsom salt water 3 times a day as well.

I’m now at a point where I think the main would has all healed, including the site where my frenulum was removed. This was the last area to heal.

I returned to the gym after four weeks and have attended three times since. However I have stuck exclusively to upper body exercises. I’m fine walking and have averaged 10km a day in the last week. But I wouldn’t fancy doing any strenuous cardio or exercise with my legs!

I’m intending to have sex on Sunday, which I’ll mark six weeks and two days since the op. So fingers crossed!!

Thank you for your answer and good luck in your endeavors. Is there a reason you haven't returned to cardio? I thought the 4 week mark should be enough to start it again.

in reply to

No specific reason. I worked from home for four weeks, so I didn’t properly adjust to wearing clothes. I didn’t fancy leaping back into a treadmill as soon as I was wearing boxers again as I thought the friction might be uncomfortable.

Although if I’m honest I’m not as big a fan of cardio anyway!

in reply to

Oh okay I understand. I've been wearing boxers since day three and currently a week post-op and starting to feel I can move normally even though I have lots of sensitivity. I hope to get back to cardio at roughly 4 weeks. By the way, thanks again for your answer and I hope you will have a great life after this circumcision. I hear many people with phimosis talk about it and they say there is a clear division in your life, the life before the surgery and the life after. For the better that is.

You too, best of luck!!
