Hi,
I have had BPH for a number of years, things have got steadily worse to the point where I was having difficulty passing urine, although it took a while I got there in the end, this had become the norm for me and I had learned to live with it.
Lately, urination had become harder so I saw my GP and was referred to my local Urology department for a 'pressure test' this showed that I had a significant obstruction and was a candidate for TURP.
At this assessment, it was found that after giving me 500ml via a catheter into my bladder, I then returned 600ml showing a real pressure 'spike', but to my alarm it was found that I was still retaining 800ml, so was shown how to self-catheterise, which I found easy to achieve and to be honest was a revelation as I realised that I had not been empty for years and it felt great.
So, I am given a good supply of catheters and sent home to await next stage. I used the catheter night and morning, but the problem was that almost immediately, I found myself unable to urinate normally, not a drop could be passed without a catheter and now during the night I was waking up as usual two or three times, bursting to go, but unable to do so and I am experiencing extreme sensitivity in my penis, almost like an electric shock sensation, I did not want to be using a catheter through the night, so waited until the urge to go passed, but it returned every hour or so.
My urology department have suggested that I catheterise four times a day now which I am doing, but I'm getting some blood each time, sometimes only a little sometimes quite a bit and to be honest I am very very worried about the whole thing, it seems I went in with a minor problem, but now have a major one.
Does anyone else share some of my experiences?
