scrotum goes tight

Hello, for the last 1.5 years my scrotum gets tight when standing or active. Not sure if related but it started approximately 4 months after a new partner. When tight I also get mild discomfort.

I can also feel some swelling on a tube behind my left testicle that is tender if squeezed.

Recently had CBC completed and white cell count ok.

any thoughts!

Get the swelling checked by your GP. Amongst other things, it could be epididymitis, an epididymal cyst, or something worse. The former is treated with antibiotics.

What would cause these and what could be worse. I do not have discharge or urine problems

Epididymitis is just a bacterial infection. Without Googling, I have no idea what causes epididymal cysts, but they are common as men get older.

I had googled and seen it caused by sti. But like I say, I do not have any discharge or problems with you in urination even over this period.

Epididymitis is just bacteria getting in - all it needs is the end of your penis to come into contact with something with bacteria on - sitting too far forward on a WC, wiping with toilet paper after wiping rear end, etc. Doesn't have to involve sexual transmission.

Best thing is to get it checked by your GP

with not having discharge or painful urination would you expect it not to be caused by STI?

Also you mentioned something worse? What would that be?

It is a sort of infection. Had something like that, my testicles were always hanging then they got tight and sweaty and some reddish inflammation. They did all tests and so on but discovered nothing. After my own investigation found testicles very sensitive part of your body and I was using scented wet baby wipes and I caused myself an infection. I stopped using them and I got okay. But keep in mind it could also be a type of STD. You gotta check with your doctor. Cheers

What STD can cause this.

I thought common symptoms of STD would be discharge or painful urination but I don’t have either of these

I wouldn't get hung up on what might cause it until you know what it is. It might be a bacterial infection, it might not. It might be a STI, it might not. You need to get it checked by your GP for your benefit and the benefit of your partner. GPs are used to checking this sort of thing - given that blokes are encouraged to check for lumps in case of testicular cancer, GPs are used to double-checking lumps/swellings. Depending on what they find/suspect, they might give you antibiotics, or they might forward you on (such as for ultrasound in case of epipididymal cysts)

among others drs told me it could be Orchitis most often the result of a bacterial infection, such as a sexually transmitted infection (STI). In some cases, the mumps virus can cause orchitis. Epididymo-orchitis.Fluid Buildup. … taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), like ibuprofen or naproxen, along with using ice or cold packs, supporting and elevating your scrotum, cotton only and confortable underwear or not underwear at all. Avoid hot baths and keep it clean and dried until normal

thanks for advise. Just to be clear when I say scrotum goes tight I mean contracted as if in cold water. It’s not tight due to contents swelling

I have noticed something similar. Scrotum very close-in without much slack. Also, testicle sensitivity. Sitting too fast/hard can be painful.

Have you had any checks carried out?

I brought it up at my last quarterly Lupron appointment and they said that the sensitivity is not uncommon.

Are you taking any medications at all?

Welcome2609 profile image
Welcome2609

I wasn’t but when I know I’m going to be active I take Ibrupofen as it seems to keep scrotum a bit looser and calms discomfort

That would appear to point the finger at inflammation being, at least, a contributor to your problem.

what would cause that?

I suspect that it could be inflammation in many parts of that area. I would suggest being seen at a sexual health clinic or to have yourself referred to an endocrinologist .

if I had inflammation would this not have shown up in recent CBC. My white blood cells were not high?

Also when I’m sitting or lying down my scrotum is more loose. It goes tense as if cold when standing or active

white blood cells are useful markers of infection and blood cancers. For inflammation see: patient.info/treatment-medi...

So hopefully no infection then

as far as your wbc count goes - no.

any other suggestions on what could be causing it

sorry but what medical knowledge I have is based on my own health problems (including a very rare lymphocytic leukaemia) and my unpaid work managing clinical research studies. You need to find a good doctor who is prepared to follow-up on the basis that you are a whole human being and not on a specialism basis. My neurologist, who I see for my Parkinson’s, is excellent in that way. Perhaps your oncologist might be a good place to start.
