Post circumcision recovery

Hi guys,

I am new here. Got circumcised on 5th of this month. I am 29 years old. I had to leave my job because of severe phimosis. I have not been able to wear an underwear yet, as I am scared. Is it necessary to wear the underwear. The stitches are still present. Could anyone tell me in how many days the stitches shall get dissolved. The worst thing are the night sleep erections. Is it possible for the foreskin to cover the glans again? How much time would it take for the glans to get desensitized. Please share your experiences as I am having nightmares thinking about the recovery and future.

I have heard it can take several weeks (4-6+weeks) for the stitches to dissolve on their own, depending on what type of dissolvable sutures your surgeon used. However, the sutures have done their job after about 2 weeks, so you should be able to visit a nurse or the surgeon to see if maybe they can take out the sutures now since it is providing you discomfort. Also, healing will typically increase when the sutures come out.

I am not sure what your preference is, but underwear is never "required." It is a free world! I find it more comfortable with underwear since my glans is very sensitive still. Tighter underwear (briefs, boxer briefs, compression underwear), will keep the glans in place. A little bit of vaseline with the tight underwear does the trick for me at this stage. I am 12 days post op.

I don't believe it is possible to fully cover your glans again, although there are ways to stretch the skin that remains, but that will take a LOT of time. Unfortunately, the circumcision cuts off the remaining foreskin that covered the glans.

Keratinization might take a few weeks as the glans will go through multiple stages of peeling before it finally keratinizes, ultimately leading to desensitizing.

Stitches can take anywhere from 10 - 14 days to start dissolving and usually around day 20 onwards they are gone, its rather individual.

If you can avoid it, best to not wear any underwear for the first days. Once you need to go to work, put on tight underwear briefs/boxer briefs so your penis doesn't move around in your pants. Put a gauze with medical vaseline on your penis head, so it reduced friction in the underwear and enables you to actually function as a human being.

For night time erections, don't drink after 6PM (drink loads during the day so you are hydrated). When sleeping on the back, keep your knees up to lower the stress of stretching the penis skin when you get an erection. Same thing when sleeping on the side, fetal position. Use two blankets, one for top part of the body, one for bottom part of the body so your penis isn't covered. If you can you can sleep in underwear also with a gauze with vaseline on it. Try to think of something very unsexy to get your erections down asap. For me it was sticking my dick in a pile of snow ... which wasn't hard to think of as it was freezing outside when I had it done xD.

Keep penis clean, short showers (don't go more than 5 minutes).

Once you get circumcised, the skin won't grow back over the penis if that is what you meant. Some of your penis skin may roll over the edge of your penis when flaccid (and still swollen) but that isn't really an issue as the skin adjusts over time.
