I'm 67 and had a circumcision today. I was due to have a general anaesthetic but because of mild asthma, ended up with two spinal injections. The first didn't work and had to be repeated. That prep took 40 minutes in itself.
The operation went well at around 40 minutes also. However, the in-unit recovery took ages as I'd had a double dose of spinal and couldn't move my legs for literally hours.
Altogether I was in the unit around 11 hours! I was told to leave the dressing alone and it would fall off on its own. However, on getting home and getting changed (having a look at the same time), I found the dressing was off! It looks very clean, isn't sensitive and doesn't seem to be bleeding.
I was told that at the end of the operation, the surgeon would give me a local nerve block injection, which would last for around 4 to 5 hours. I will have had that injection at around 11am. It's now 8.30pm and still no pain! No paracetamol needed yet!
Am I just very fortunate so far, or can I expect more around the corner?
