I got Balanitis from seemingly nowhere 7 months ago.
As soon as I realized something felt off down there I took a trip to the Dr, believing that it would be a relatively easy fix. I was prescribed Clotrimazole, I was so relieved on the way home, thankful for modern medicine.
If only I’d known how premature this celebration was. I’m still here 7 months later. The worst symptoms such as stinging after urinating and the constant burning sensation have disappeared, but the red and inflamed glans and foreskin is constant. My sex life is gone as is my confidence.
I’ve tried Miconazole, Nystatin, fluconazole, hydrocortisone, coconut oil, tea tree oil and nothing at all (which works the best for me) I’ve put myself on the Candida diet for 5 months which is a horribly restrictive diet. I tried Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine. I’ve upped my supplements and added countless more, taken blood tests, urine samples, organic acid tests, hair samples and drained my savings in my attempt to find a reason why my body just can’t kick this thing.
Today I woke up sad and depressed, I decided to book an appointment with my urologist in order to take the steps to get circumcised. I’m not afraid of the surgery, I’m afraid that it won’t solve it for me, and I may have to live with this forever.
If there’s anyone out there who can share their positive experience having circumcision stemming from Balanitis I’d greatly appreciate it, I need some positivity in my life more than ever.

I suffered (and at times it was suffering) with balanitis secondary to phimosis. After numerous creams and tablets, my GP referred me to a urologist. I was told that circumcision was the next option, and I had my surgery in late 2022. I can honestly say, it was the best thing I have done. Healing from the surgery aside, the phimosis and balanitis were instantly gone and the relief from this was immediately noticeable. Personally, I have absolutely no regrets at all in having the surgery. I now can’t remember what the balanitis was like. I hope you manage to get your own situation resolved.
Hello. First of all, kudos to you as you are able to find out the cause of problem: Balanitis. It can happen to any male from 8 months to 80 years old. I got my problem detected in April 2022( I am uncircumcised male and 28 years old ). Went to doctor/nurse and got the prescription of antibiotics+antifungal cream clotrimazole, most commonly used. Problem got away in May 2022 after the use of drugs+ointment. It came back again in October 2022. Found out from online consultations that the bacteria gets resistant to antifungal ointments+antibiotics. Again for two months used the same medications and gone but felt the need to get circumcision no matter what because inflamation of foreskin glans, shaft of penis, discomfort while urinating, redness, sometimes itching, sometimes foreskin not retractable are the used to problems in day to day life. Finally, after 10 months in Feb 2023 got circumcision done and Healing now. Either today or tomorrow, With Balanitis/Phismosis circumcision is the only way. Other use of steriods/anitfungal creams etcetera are short term solution which will eventually damage more in future. Apart from this, circumcision+healing too in itself is a highly courageous, time consuming, emotionally disturbing and fruitfully rewarding procedure. Best of luck for your journey. Before circumcision, please prepare for 3-4 weeks bed rest, gather which way ( Stapler or ZSR Circumcision/ Laser Circumcision/ Traditional Method of Circumcision which involve stitches/ other common procedure in your country) will be good for you. Thanks and Best of luck.
did they give you oral anti fungal medication? Have you considered trying diluted apple cider vinegar? Do you take any medication that can cause you to be more likely to get yeast infections? Are you diabetic? Did you start any new meds? Did you treat your sexual partner as well? Have you soaked underwear in vinegar or gotten new ones? Can you keep it dry? Just a few thoughts.
I’ve tried Fluconazole for several weeks, to no effect. No diabetes, I’ve been tested. I’ve gotten new, looser underwear. I don’t take any medications, only a few supplements. My partner never had any symptoms and I always played it very safe. And yes I can keep it dry.
I haven’t tried diluted apple cider vinegar, I hadn’t heard of it being used before for a fungal infection.
I finally braved asking a Dr for help about 9 months ago… aged 50 after years of discomfort. I had been daft enough to be too embarrassed to ask for help before and hadn’t realised what Balanitis or Phimosis were… but I had them both!
My consultant said he could offer other minor alternatives if I wanted to avoid circumcision but told me none of them had a high chance of success… and he was confident he’d see me again within 18 months for surgery! I left undecided and asked for help on this group. The help from guys on here was superb and I decided to take the surgery! Was done within 6 weeks.
Honestly - I wish I had done it 20 year plus ago!! It has made so much difference!! The pain and discomfort gone and my new cock even looks great! (I didn’t know I didn’t like it before!!)
Don’t get me wrong - it is a few weeks difficulty going through the recovery. The second week will feel like hell and you’ll wonder if it will ever end. But it does… and then hopefully like me and others you’ll look back and wonder what you were so scared of and be so pleased you had it done. Can’t recommend highly enough as a solution buddy! Has transformed my life!
Good day brother,Did you get the procedure done? How did it go? Did it clear the balanitis? I am going through a very similar situation. It has been a couple of months and it seems that nothing works. I have seen 2 dermatologists, and 3 different doctors, to include a urologist. The urologist, after a brief exam, recomended me a circumcision. He said that, if nothing has worked, that is the best course of action. I am not scared about the surgery, I am afraid that it won't solve the issue. I feel super hopeless, and nearly depressed with all this.
Brother, thanks for taking your time and replying to my message. I hate to take your time, but I do have a couple more questions. How soon were you able to resume your daily activities, work, workouts, and intimacy? Work worries me, I do not like to take too much time off. Plus people always start questioning what happened... If you can answer those, it will be greatly appreciated. If not, I am super cool with your initial reply. I hope you keep healing nicely and stay healthy. Thanks!
I resumed working out after 2 weeks. I still haven’t resumed work, but that’s not due to not being able to, it’s just that I saved up enough to be able to take a massive break from work if I wanted. Haha. And my job was very physical, if I had an office job i would have been back a long time ago.
I was able to masturbate after 5 weeks. Sex, I still haven’t been able to enjoy without slight discomfort and I’m at 2 months. But it will get better as the scar tissue softens and everything falls into place.
I was out and about almost normal after 2 weeks, although I didn’t get up to much, just a bit of walking and grocery shopping. The first week is crucial, make sure you have as few responsibilities as possible, give yourself time and patience.
I did keep the operation under wraps until recently and now I don’t really give a hoot who knows about it. I tell everyone what happened. Im a fairly open book though and I realize everyone is different.
If you don’t want people to know, you could always say that you had something else operated on, get creative with it!
