Balanitis healed with Circumcision???

Karthur profile image
67 Replies

I have been dealing with balanitis for a couple of months now. It has been very challenging. Intimacy came to a complete stop. After seeing 2 dermatologists and 3 doctors, to include a Urologist, I am almost certain that I will have to get a circumcision. The Urologist recommended it after a brief exam, and after he listened to everything that I have tried. I feel super hopeless right now. I am afraid that the circumcision might not solve the problem. However, the doctors have tried a good amount of things already. The only things that calms down the balanitis is hydrocortisone or triamcinolone. But, as soon as I stop it comes back. Everything else seems to make it worse. At least anything that is an ointment agravates it. Has anyone gotten a circumcision because of balanitis and did it actually work? Any imput will be greatly appreciated. I know it will help with my mental state. Thank you for reading.

Thank you so much for replying. That definitely gives me hope. Did you have the symptoms when you got the procedure done? How are you feeling at week 5? How long it took you to resume daily activities, work, etc... Sorry for all the questions. I am just trying to be mentally prepared for whats coming. Thank you for your time brother.

Not a problem, I didn’t haven’t symptoms at the time of circumcision no but since nothing has come back just looks really healthy (the head). The actual line where the stitches were is still raised but it is healing well. Just be prepared for your penis to be swollen for a good 1/2 weeks. After the first few days I went back to work. Had about 3/4 days rest. I work in construction so was abit uncomfortable walking about but the wore baggy shorts… week 5 now and I don’t even notice the feel of it in my boxers anymore

Thanks brother! I hope everything heals nicely. I think I am just gonna get it out of the way, the sooner the better. Dealing with balanitis is a real pain...

Thank you so much for the reply. I am definitely more confident now with all the support. Were your symptoms active when you got the surgery? I hope you heal quickly brother. I know the recovery can be challenging...

Thank you. They were very happy with it. Very impressed with how it looks and said it was the neatest one they ever seen.

Hope the consultation goes well. Keep us updated. We are here for you

Here's the update. I went to a Doctor that specializes in adult circumcisions today. After he examined me, he said that a circumcision would take care of the skin problems there. He answered all my questions before I even ask him. He is pricey, no doubt, but during the consultation I understood why. He is like a plastic surgeon for penis. He claims that because of his method of stitching/glue, the recovery time is faster. I am scheduled for Sep 20. I will take everybody's advise and just do it. I feel blessed with all the support here.

100% yes. Circumcision did cure my balinitis. They also discovered something called lichen sclerosis which it also cured. I had my procedure last November and no recurrence whatsoever

Karthur profile image
Karthur in reply toKnd229

That sounds great. The feeling after beating balanitis must have been awesome. Did they discover the condition you mentioned through pathology after the surgery? How long it took you to resume daily activities, work, workouts, intimacy? Thank you for your time brother.

Have you stopped washing your foreskin and glans with soap? Did you treat for yeast?

Karthur profile image
Karthur in reply tojimfromcalif

I stopped all the creams and ointments. None of them work, except for over the counter hydrocortisone and triamcinolone. They both just mask the problem and cannot be used long term. For washing I use Vanicream every other day. It was recommended by the last dermatologist. It still flares up things, but I have to clean it. Even if I use just water it flares it up for a while. This thing is insane, there is no way of stopping it. I haven't use anything for 4 days now and it has gotten sticky, flimsy, and kinda scaly. It stresses me out to look at it. I might have to use a bit of hydrocortisone today or tmrw...

jimfromcalif profile image
jimfromcalif in reply toKarthur

The cleanser and the steroids are a big part of the problem. Both lead to yeast problems.

Karthur profile image
Karthur in reply tojimfromcalif

Today it looked pretty bad. I am contemplating using clotrimazole just to see what happens. I have to keep things at bay until the procedure.

Lee616liam profile image
Lee616liam in reply toKarthur

Hope you are okay. Mate.

jimfromcalif profile image
jimfromcalif in reply toKarthur

What if it’s cured? Would you still undergo surgery?

Karthur profile image
Karthur in reply tojimfromcalif

To be honest, even if it goes away, I never ever ever want to go through this again. So, if circumcision is the key, I will get it out of the way. But I must admit, I am desperate for some type of relief. I would like to at least be intimate with my girl one more time before the procedure. I know it will take a while before I can have sex after the procedure. I just started clotrimazole again. Last time I only used it for a couple of days. I will give it a week this time. What you said made sense. I was already thinking about it. Thanks for the support brother.

Hi,

I had Zoon's Ballanitis and had Surgery over six years ago . It not all been plain sailing but no return of the Zoon's.

Karthur profile image
Karthur in reply tojaglad

Thanks for the input brother. Did you have any issues after the surgery? You are a 6 year veteran, your input is definitely legitimate... Thank you for taking your time to reply.

jaglad profile image
jaglad in reply toKarthur

Nothing out of the ordinary. Occasional bleeds, painful erections, but the worst was Hypersensitivity. It lasted quite a while, but we get through it.

Karthur profile image
Karthur in reply tojaglad

So, would you say the procedure solved the balanitis problem for you? Also, what style did you choose? High and tight or loose, etc... I haven't made up my mind. I told the doctor that I would go for the one that keeps balanitis away forever... lol

Lee616liam profile image
Lee616liam in reply toKarthur

If it helps. Mines high and tight.

Love how it looks.

jaglad profile image
jaglad in reply toKarthur

The type of cut was not discussed and at the time I did not know there was a choice. It was possible at the time that I had Penile Cancer, apparently the symptoms are similar. So I was rushed through the system.I have suffered no more issues other than a slight discolouration to part of the Penis head.

All in all, I would rather have not needed Surgery but I am happy to be symptom free and life is now normal.

Karthur profile image
Karthur in reply tojaglad

Wow brother, that must have been rough. I'll take discolouration any day over cancer or balanitis. Thanks a lot for the input brother. You might not remember, but just in case. How soon did you go back to your daily activities, work, workouts, intimacy, etc...

jaglad profile image
jaglad in reply toKarthur

Yea, all things considered Circumcision was the least of my worries.

Sex was great after six weeks, using a condom at first. But the pain continued for quite a while. I had hypersensitivity and this took quite a while to settle down. But we do get over it.

Karthur profile image
Karthur in reply tojaglad

Thanks for the input. It seems like recovery and patience is probably worse than the actual procedure. Hopefully I will get to say I got over it too... Thanks brother.

Karthur profile image

It seems that that is the preferred. I am glad you are happy with the results. With me,whatever keeps balanitis away will work... lol

Hope something works for you.

Maybe ask about a frenuloplasty.

Mate I’ve been struggling with Balanitis for over a year I got so fed up with it all that I went for a private consultation with a Urologist he recommended circumcising he quickly booked me in within two weeks and today is the big day I am having my procedure this afternoon, I also going for high and tight cut so that my glans remains skin free and clean. I will update you when all is done, wish me luck my friend

Glad it went well. Did you have stitches done. Here for you. Feel free to pm me if you need anything at all. As I am day 12 can help with the early process of healing.

in reply toLee616liam

Back home now mate yes I had stitches I have started to get some sensation back now.

How is your recovery on day 12 ? Any tips on day 1 ?

Lee616liam profile image
Lee616liam in reply to

Hey. Recovery

On day 12 is good. Some soreness but nothing major.

For day 1 I would say take it easy. Don’t do too much and if it helps I sat on the sofa with nothing on. As it was tender.

Are you from the uk.

in reply toLee616liam

Yes in Leicester mate, I’m on the sofa myself with nothing on. I’ve got sharp tingling sensation which is not too painful but it’s the sparks which are spasmodic and getting more intense as the anesthetic is wearing off

Have you got paracetamol and ibuprofen. They work wonders. It does get easier. But the bruising and swelling will start on day 2. Mine came on all at once.

in reply toKarthur

Thanks bro I’m back home now after the procedure

I forgot to mention for the last two months I’ve left my foreskin pulled back 1. To get used to the sensitivity 2. To keep Balanitis at minimum for flare ups it helped me a lot hope this helps you

Hello everyone,I am now on day 25 I think after the circumcision. This has been a roller-coaster. It definitely affected me mentally more than I anticipated. It was not painful at all. I didn't take anything after the surgery. The stitches fell off around day 19. I can feel a bump on the top part of the shaft, and the incision area feels a bit swolen. I had sex two days ago and I am definitely not ready, it was painful. My main concern now is that it looks smaller. It looks thicker but smaller. I hope that gets better. I also tried masturbation and it did not feel pleasurable at all, I stopped. I feel like that is the one thing that will never be good again. I hope it gets better... Any input it is highly appreciated. Sorry for the long message....

My Doctor told me not to do anything for 6 weeks. He told me that it may look healed on the outside, but is still healing in below the scar. It will be ok, but just give yourself time to heal.

Have had no problems at all since.

It’s funny now… I was so frightened of getting it done… and yet 18 months on I’m living the dream! Best decision I made and wish I’d done it 20 years earlier!

It’s certainly an emotional roller coaster but so much better the other side for me!

Pleased yours has gone so well too.

zara1986 in reply toJasper71

thats awesome bro.. i waited for 15 years with this nightmare and now im finally doing it i can't take it anymore.... the inner part of my skin is very bad and no cream or pills can ever cure it completely. im curious how is masterbation after being circumsised? im worried just like u were lol

Jasper71 profile image
Jasper71 in reply tozara1986

Seriously bud - my experience and that of so many others that supported me is you don’t need to worry. It’s a few rough weeks of recovery (many posts already in this) and it’s as much an emotional journey as we guys seem to be very attached to our cocks!

But after those few weeks I suspect you’ll look back and wish you’d done it years ago. For me - everything about it is better.

Yes - masturbation is different and you almost need to learn again how to play with it. DONT rush it… wait at least 6 weeks, be gentle, slow, and order yourself some coconut oil!! Things will never be the same again! But they will not be worse!!

May I ask how long it takes that the glans is healing (from the balanitis) after circumcision? I had my CiCi 3 days ago and I am just curious/paranoid how long it ususally takes until the glans looks normal again.

Karthur profile image
Karthur in reply totschako

Sorry for the late reply. I had very little on the gland, it was mostly the foreskin. Balanitis healed right away, however, the healing process after the procedure is slow, you have to be very very patient with it. It takes at least 6 to 8 weeks for you to see that things are coming together well.

aakksskskskkcs profile image
aakksskskskkcs

Hey, Karthur, just got mine done 7 days due to recurrent balanitis on the foreskin for the last 3 to 4 years. Though, I noticed they game me a low and loose cut. This being said I am worries that the rest of the inner skin left, may affect my balanitis problem again. Can I ask for which cut did you went?

zara1986 profile image
zara1986 in reply toaakksskskskkcs

i think mine is also low and loose or low and tight since the stitches are close to my head, i also got it done cuz of balanitis, its day 24 now and i don't seem to see any balanitis its just a lil bit redness on the inner skin thats been removed but its still too early im still healing and i still wash it 2 times a day for best hygiene results..

since the inner skin has been removed i don't think balanitis will return cuz there is no more heat under the skin for the bacteria to form so ill update in 6 months

aakksskskskkcs profile image
aakksskskskkcs in reply tozara1986

Actually in low and loose there is still a little inner skin left, where the bacteria that gives balanitis thrives. In that sense, for dermatological issues is always better low and tight since all inner skin is gone, and with that all the moisturized part of skin that feeds bacteria/fungus
