2 years post circumcising, still in severe pain

Hello, I had a surgery about 2 years back to get circumcised, ever since my penis has been in terrible shape.

I can not get erections anymore, well, I can physically, but I get a severe stabbing pain on the tip/underneath the tip of penis when I do which makes it to unbearable to maintain.

The whole bottom area remains significantly swollen even 2 years post op, there’s swelling all around the tip.

Size received a significant change, doctor said it’s just because I’m overweight, but I’ve been the same weight from pre-op, post-op, a year later when I went for a reevaluation, and today. my penis was literally 2.5 inches longer while flacid prior to the circ. now it hardly pokes out of my body, it’s like I don’t have one anymore, while erect it doesn’t even change in size now when it used to double.

I included a photo

1. Prior to surgery, day of

2. Day one post op

3. 2 years post op.

The swelling around the edge never went down properly, there’s a gray/white lump visible in the photo right underneath the tip. Edges look extremely unhealthy. Went back 1 year after post op and was told this was totally normal by the urologist’s partner. I don’t understand how this is normal, my penis lost its functionality, constantly provides sharp pains, even while flaccid, looks like it’s got other issues going on, and the size is significantly smaller, doesn’t even hang down enough to make contact with my scrotum. How is this normal? I don’t want to go see another doctor if they’re just going to tell me again how this is normal, having my penis remain this damaged 2 years post op cannot be normal can it?

Hey mate. Sorry to hear your having such a bad time.

Did you suffer with any pain or discomfort before the procedure? What was the reason for the procedure?

Although you mention you don’t want to see someone else to say it’s normal, I would suggest you visited another consultant for another opinion, I wouldn’t just put up with it causing you issues so long after the op. It must be taking its toll on your mental health too.

I’m no expert and only 15 days post op, but from your photos it looks clean and healthy can’t see any reoccurring infection? Which I’ve heard can be an issue with larger guys. Did all the stitches come out? Is there any signs of foreign bodies?

Stay strong mate - get another opinion.

Maybe don’t tell the doctor that it’s down to the circumcision - just explain the pain you are in, could it be something else not related that you haven’t considered? Triggered by the circumcision? Let the experts tell you. I find if I ever tell the doctor what it is, they don’t always look at the bigger picture. (From my experience)

I hope things get better for you buddy.

James, it sounds very much like you might have a condition referred to as hidden penis syndrome. It is usually caused by removing too much penile skin in infant circumcision, but it can also happen with adult circumcision. I am not a physician, but I have studied about circumcision for over 40 years and stand opposed to routine infant circumcision.

I am not sure why you opted to get circumcised as an adult (phimosis - too tight a foreskin?), but it is very important that you see a competent (foreskin-friendly) urologist to see if there are some hopefully non-surgical means of helping your condition. There is a thing called "foreskin restoration" which gradually stretches the remaining penile skin and some men have had good success, but this usually involves a "normal" circumcision, not one in which too much skin is removed.

If you go to a non-foreskin friendly physician or urologist, he might not help you and could make it even worse. I would also see about suing the surgeon who botched your circumcision, if the statute of limitations is not passed. A urologist who does this kind of damage needs to be stopped so he doesn't continue to do it to others. I'm assuming, of course, that the circumcision caused your issues, I also have no way of knowing that. I wish you well!
