glans hyper sensitivity post circumcision

Gdawg20 profile image
18 Replies

I had my circumcision eight days ago.

Since the surgery, I have not been able to wear clothes, move around, or even have a proper night sleep.

There is so much sensitivity that any time it comes into contact with anything, it is like an electric current passing through my body.

Please help me, how can I reduce sensitivity.

I am worried that I cannot live my life like this in so much discomfort.

Thank you for your replies and for your support

Hi mate, i have been on 16th day post op ! I was same as u initially but things do get better with time!!U can try by running water over it while bathing, can sleep with the bed sheet over u so that after u sleep and it gets erect , it can come in contact with sheet and in the process get accustomed to it a little bit as u sleep!

U can wear gauze around it and try to sleep wearing underwear then it will let u sleep peacefully and after u sleep and get a boner, it will touch with the fabric and also aid in the healing! As in my case it used to touch to skin of leg or abdomen after i slept and initially it used to wake me up little bit but now even when i am awake, i can get it touched by mistake and it is bearable!!

So its just about the exposure u provide it, i am also in the early days post op so can’t explain much about this but this is what i have seen in these 16 days

Right now I do rap a goes around it when I sleep, and I also need to wrap a goes during the daytime because it is too uncomfortable when it comes in contact with my underwear.

Also I am not able to take a shower because the water pressure feels very sensitive.

Instead I have been soaking my penis in a bowl of water three times a day

I posted this on another question,I’ll put it here for you as you might find some of it helpfulPost Circumcision Care……

1:The glans will get dead skin and gunk etc as it keratinises so twice a day soak your penis in glass of warm salty water for 5 minutes or so,this will loosen whatever dead skin, gunk or debris that has built up and keep the glans and wound site nice and clean and speeds up healing.

2:The major drawback post op is the sensitivity,it varies from person to person…some guys don’t find it too much of a problem and just push through without too much inconvenience, others(like me) have a harder time of it.I’d always recommend if you’re sensitivity is high to wrap the glans with Vaseline covered gauze and keep the penis pointing upright in tight boxer shorts to reduce movement.Seamless micropore boxers are great for this, get the size smaller than you usually get as you want everything to be held in position as much as possible.

3:Shave everything!….hair and stubble are NOT your friends in the healing stage.

4:Don’t touch it for anything other than wound care or dressings for six weeks,no wanking or sex at all! You’ll just damage the incision site and prolong the healing process.

Hopefully this covers some of the problems,so good luck😊👍

Salt water sounds like it would really sting on the glans? What was your experience with this?

Also what was the proportion of salt and water which you used?

Homemade saline: Boil 1 litre of tap water and add 1 tea spoon of table salt. Stir. You can bath your penis in a bowl or a tea mug, when the solution is cooled down near the body temperature. 5-10 min, once a day. You can rinse with it too. Some German doctors suggest bath with chamomile.

You can read more about wound healing here:

About daily wound care here:

Part of the modern wound care is to cover the wound until the incision site is healed and there is no discharge anymore.

A strip of paraffin gauze to contact layer prevents the woven gauze stuck into dried wound discharge.

It didn’t sting in my case, you can use S2BC’s instructions or there are others online😊👍

Thanks, I just tried it, 1 teaspoon of salt in 1 L of water.

It didn’t sting at all.

Apart from soaking it in salt water, and using Vaseline when wrapping it in a gauze, is there anything else I can do to speed up this process of healing and reducing sensitivity?

I tried your suggestion of making the penis stand upright.

In my case this actually seems to make it more uncomfortable, because the gauze applies more pressure on the underside of the penis, and it is more sensitive in this area

Am I doing something wrong?

So I was able to make my penis upright for a minute or two today.

Am I supposed to keep it like this during the day while I'm sitting at my desk?

Is it also advisable to this during the night when I sleep?

It takes time to desensitize. SSRIs reduce penile sensitivity if it is an issue for u that persists.

I had the same thing, annoying af but it reduces with time

8 days is very early in the healing stage,it’ll be very sensitive for a while,in my case I wrapped it in Vaselined gauze for the first 4 weeks whenever I had to go out or when I couldn’t leave it exposed. They recommend that you keep it upright as this helps the lymphatic fluid drain away and reduce the swelling faster,if it’s too uncomfortable or painful then maybe skip that until things have healed up a bit more.As to any more suggestions some guys use a cricket box to let things settle without too much friction, also start to use the shower directly on your glans, this is a relatively gentle method of desensitization. But you’ll get to the point where you just have to take the gauze off and bite the bullet,I did after 4 weeks and it was uncomfortable by then but not unbearable(I put Vaseline on the glans but didn’t gauze it if I really needed some relief)After a week or so of that it had settled down to the point that I could go about my day to day life as long as I was careful. It’s just patience now,it will get better reasonably quickly 😊👍

Thanks this is super helpful. This makes sense about keeping the penis upright to drain the lymphatic fluid faster. I'll try this again after a week or two in case it's less sensititive by then.

With the cricket box I think there are various types with different methods to secure them in place.

Any suggestion you can provide on this front?

Btw, I just met my doctor today, and he said the healing is coming along fine.

He said not to wrap it in gauze as it will delay the healing process.

Oh, and the worst part, he just said "the sensitivity is all in your head. Just let it hang out and rub against your clothes" - typical doctor speak.

There has been a significant improvement in healing in the past 48 hours.

Today I was able to keep my penis upright for a few hours.

Is there any amount of time we are recommended to keep it upright for?

Should we do this as much as possible during the day? Or should we let it down every so often?

Also, should we keep it upright while sleeping as well?

Thanks again for all your advice and responses, it has been super helpful!

You can try to keep your penis upward toward belly by putting a sock or a small towel etc.between your penis shaft and scrotum like to 'U' shape and then wear an underwear on.

Your doctor was right about one thing 'the sensitivity is all in your head', cause there is no real pain on the glans normally, your nerve endings on penis head (glans) probably just have not get used to be exposed earlier.

sensitivity will take about 5 months to go away… not 5 or 6 weeks!… it takes a long time trust me.

In the beginning after my op i too had hyper sensitivity but i dealt with it bu using very tight briefs to keep things from moving around during the day, but at night i slept naked to let air help dry things out and after 5 months in i was fine .

Basically youn need to dry it out and it you will feel as time goes by you will find a area on your glans is desensitised and it seems to spread slowly but surely across the surface.. it takes time.. time heals everything.
