Guidance on erections after circumcision

7 days post-circumcision here and want to find out the general advice on getting erections: no problem or something to be wary of?

I was told no intercourse for 6 weeks and am in no rush to do anything for short-term pleasure that will risk causing any avoidable long-term problems.

I’ve read that you should urinate before bed to avoid involuntary night time erections (I got woken up by pain of these the first couple nights), and obviously the first few days the pain of an erection was so bad that I completely deliberately stopped them when they began. (I found this was harder in bed when they sometimes happened there, so I would stand on the cold floor to snap myself out of it!)

After a couple of days ago (so on the 5th day) however erections were no longer painful. I didn’t touch myself there when it happened, and to some extent I was gauging the progress by the loss of this accompanying pain (there is no visible outward sign of the progress you can just feel it changing).

I’d read that you absolutely shouldn’t masturbate but nobody has said you’re not allowed to get a boner, so I am increasingly just allowing it (as long as there is no pain and I feel it’s under my control, and again: not touching it).

I’m only entering the 2nd week after surgery and appreciate this is still early in recovery, so wanted to ask if this is OK? Am I perhaps going to do any harm by not being more self-disciplined? It doesn’t seem to be discussed and I can’t find it in the search here so wanted to ask the community who have been through it or are going through it.

Don’t worry,you’re doing everything right,as long as you give yourself 6 weeks or so of no sex or masturbation you’ll be absolutely fine.Don’t worry about erections,once they’ve stopped hurting forget about them,they won’t do any harm and can actually straighten out any wrinkles etc in the scar area.

Use your judgement - you are not harming yourself if ur getting a boner and it doesn’t pain. I have completed 7 weeks now but I had sex at week 5 and masturbate on day 16 - was sore for a day after that but helped me relax. Everyone’s journey is slightly different - m so glad I got this done ! All the best to you !

I know what you mean I had my op 2 days ago,the 2 nights of sleep have been hell for me from around 4am both mornings I keep getting hard everytime I drift off to sleep and can feel the pain in the stitches I hope this gets better for me soon

Yeah it would wake me up about 3 or 4 times each night for the first 2 days, thankfully the pain of the stitches was the first thing to go. 🙂

Have a pack of frozen peas wrapped in a cloth ready in the freezer…it gets it down quickly.

According to my surgeon, nighttime erections are part of the healing process and like Mubbles said, help to get things back to normal. I did find them pretty uncomfortable though. If you lie on your side and draw your knees up towards your chest it does make it a bit more manageable.

erectio are not and cant be forbiden, but having any kind of sexual play with your cock is not good before the 3 to 6 weeks your doctor told you. i found the best way to wait until your cock is ok, is to massage your prostate to avoid the blueballs feeling.

No problem at all - and also, it's not likely you can really control them, is it? Nature will take its course and relieve the pressure eventually. I was horny as hell for most of week 3 until I had a wet dream, my first since my 20s. The main reason they say to abstain from masturbation is because it will slow down the internal healing, particularly if, as you might find, masturbation takes longer and requires a tighter grip now you're cut (that was my experience anyway). The erections will help with healing because they'll stretch the scar area which should minimise tightness once you are healed.

Well I mean if it was genuinely advisable I would try and enter a monk-like headspace 😅 Bizarrely I actually had a ‘dream within a dream’, where the in-dream dream was a wet dream (but when I woke up I hadn’t actually had a wet dream lol?!)

I’m just going through this right now… just awake in the middle of my 8th night sleep (well not much sleep!) with a bag of frozen peas peas on my cock!

This is my 4th night of badly broken sleep… started on Sunday night with having to get up up to 5 times a night for the peas. Initially the pain was really unbearable… but each day it seems to be getting a little less.

Tonight I’ve only got up twice (so far and it’s now 4:45am!) but each of these I did lie in bed for a while thinking maybe I can tough this out and stay in bed… but the peas won!!

There is no way on Sunday toughing it out was an option… hoping I’m close to be able to get through the night with just mild discomfort from night boners… rather than severe pain!!
