Hi, I am 35 years old. I had circumcision done 3 weeks ago. I went for a follow-up appointment to see how things are progressing. They said it looks fine just taking longer in my case. I still have swelling, and I don't see any stitches. The stitches seem to have dissolved. I feel tightness when erected. How do you tell if too much skin has been cut? I feel my penis when erect is not at full size. I am aware that the healing takes about 6 weeks. I appreciate all the answers. Thank you.

Adult Circumcision
Hey, I'm 28 and I was circumcised a year ago. I also felt that it was tight when erect during the early days. In my case, I was panicking everytime I got an erection as I didn't want it to cause any issues to the healing process. Once it had healed and I was able to get an erection without the stress of tearing wounds or stitches open, I was impressed with how well the surgeon managed to judge how much skin to take off without ever seeing my penis erect. So at this point I think it's best to just relax and see how the healing goes, as you know it does take time. All the best!
Appreciate the reply. Do you recall at what stage you felt things had returned to normal?
I had a rough start to be honest. For the first 2 weeks, I couldn't even get boxers on, the discomfort was huge. I managed to get a condom on after 2 months, although from what I remember, I still had a couple of visible stitches. They dropped off shortly after. I had 2 weeks off work and returned to work with a covering of vaseline and a bandage or kitchen paper. I covered up for work for about 3 weeks. I think it took just over 2 months for all scabs and stitches to disappear and life became normal again. If you click my profile, you should see the posts I made last year. Check out the replies, they were very good on my post. I panicked a lot, despite that everything turned out fine. Everyone heals differently and has different circumstances, some people were back to sexual activities after 4-6 weeks for example. Whereas I was nowhere near ready for that.
Agree with the previous reply. 3 weeks is too early to tell what the final result will be. For me everything was very tight and it felt like my penis couldn't achieve full size erection till I was fully healed. At 6 weeks or so you should be able to see a big difference depending on how you are healing
The healing process for each guy being circumcised is often different. There is no fixed time for full healing - both internal and external - to take place. It is not always going to be 6 weeks and can often be much more. Six weeks is more a minimum. See the excellent updates posted by Arclight1979
Three weeks is very early as others are saying. Six is the guide I was given for proper healing and things changed by that time compared to three weeks. I remember mine feeling tight during an erection early on but that’s gone away since and the amount of skin left is as I would want/expect. Good luck!
been through that. I thought they cut too much foreskin off at the start but as time goes by it does stretch a bit when fully erect. However, in my case, I wished they left a bit more skin around the frenulum as this area, when erect, is a bit tight.
My cut was just under the glans rather than mid shaft. Where was yours cut?
Hope it heels well for you.
Well someone else who was cut under the glans like me. All the others I've seen have been mid shaft which gives a totally different look
Yeah I don’t know why they never consulted me how I would like it! I prefer mid shaft cut as the skin is then flexible up and down. Currently, where it was sutured under the glans, the skin is tighter there and can only move upwards towards the glans rather than moving down the shaft. So the scrotum skin moves up the shaft!
Sounds familiar. I didn't get asked either. I was just relieved to get done as I had phimosis and skin adhesions which were a major problem for me. I know a lot more now after being on this site. Still causes me a problem now and again during sexual activity
It’s better for me cut as it was hurting during sex before the circumcision
Same here. Mine is not perfect but much better cut plus it looks good
Yes cut looks nicer compared to a long foreskin. My own opinion.
My opinion also. I had a long foreskin which I was never happy with. Looks much neater and cleaner
Agree. Mine wasn’t long foreskin. Had a turn frenulum and starring tissue but they never removed the frenulum but circumcised me and kept it!
does it hurt when you pull back? My skin is tight and feels stingy when pulled backwards towards shaft
same. When I’m completely flaccid, it can shrink like a tortoise head but when erect, it is just under 6”. So not sure how they decide how much to cut if flaccid unless they inflate the penis during the surgery which I doubt happened.
