7.5 weeks post circumcision, stitch bumps query

so it’s 7.5 weeks since circumcision surgery and I’m healing well. However, what are other people’s experiences on how long it takes for the stitch bumps to go and flatten?

Are you using something like bio oil to help with the scar? The length of time it takes for any scar to resolve to its final situation varies greatly - often months.

Yeah I'm using Bio-oil and a vitamin e cream and yeah I know it varies loads, but just hoping for a rough guide; like does it suddenly start flattening etc.

It is a gradual process. It will not suddenly change.

Hey bro I’m 3 yrs post op I noticed my scar start to flatten out like 1 1/2 yrs & even then the underside was still pretty gnarly , my scar line and the skin under& around scar was stiff a lil puffy - I assumed it’s scare tissue tryna mend itself back together—- dr told me that’s what takes the longest the tidies are “rewiring”

barely now it’s soft skin not stiff scar line anymore and has more stretch that’s my experience tho — I also tried to stretch my extra skin to break down scar tissue and get that “flat” scar line

Hey man, your circumcision won’t come to its final cosmetic appearance for at least 6 months, the bumps and ridges do start to go down after about 6 weeks, but it’s a long process for it to all settle down to the final result! Patience is your best friend here, easier to forget about it and have fun with it, and it will all be sorted soon!

That’s a great question! I’m on week four and I’m wondering when the jaggedy looking skin will go back to normal. When I touch the scar line it feels hard, do you think that means there’s still stitches inside? From the outside it looks like all the stitches are gone, so I am going to start using Maderma bio oil.

So I’m 8 weeks on Monday and the stitches are all obviously out, but the bumps are hard. I’ve had surgery in other places before and that’s common; but just wondering on how long people’s experience is for theirs to soften and flatten as I know everyone is different

Might still have stitches inside. If you feel lumps under the skin, around the scar, there's probably stitches

Hey. Silicone gel scar sheets are really effective at flattening and reducing scars. They're a first line treatment option in hospitals for anyone who's had surgery. But what I found out about my own scar, at about week 7, is that there's alot more stitches than I thought, and they're all mostly subcutaneous (under the skin). And they can be removed.

They're called subcuticular continuous sutures, and they're basically groups of single, long sutures with a knot at one end, and somewhere along the length of it, a very thin, practically invisible stitch is tethered to it. The subcuticular suture is poked thru the skin under the surface, and the knot anchors it in place, and the thin suture is used to hold the scarline closed.

If you feel lumps under the scar, that's a good indication you have subcuticular continuous sutures.

I also found the scar to be in an almost constant state of itchiness and irritation, with a bit of pain here and there.

After I figured out that you can get rid of these things by breaking/cutting the outside stitch, then pushing the lump (the knot) clockwise or counterclockwise around the scarline, I noticed some immediate benefits.

Sometimes after cutting a stitch, the bumpy, pleated-looking skin would instantly flatten out.

And other times, after pushing the subcuticular suture around the scarline enough times to free it, I'd get instant relief from itchiness and irritability.

They really should leave adult circumcisions to a the select few expert surgeons who can do nice high and tight cuts on adults, with excellent cosmetic outcomes. The average urologist doesn't give a shit about the outcome, and if everything goes ok, and you don't die, or lose your dick, the operation is considered a success. That's total bullshit, considering the large percentage of people who go for it because they find it aesthetically better.

There should be a cosmetic standard that has to be met too.

I'm nearly 14 weeks and I've increased my bio oil use the past couple weeks. It's flattened more. Still raised uniformly on the scar line, but the individual bumps have blended together.

So it’s about 19 months since my surgery and there’s still a few bumps, although I’m sure on I’d really notice. My cosmetic appearance is actually good and I have no noticeable change in sensitivity, feeling to before.

I’m still waiting for it to settle fully and the colour to fully mellow (I’ve had surgery on other parts of body and know that can take years). The only thing is I’m quite dark skinned and the stitch marks are lighter. I’ve used creams to try evening out / fade them but it’s a slow process
