Hi Lisajane, they class you as being in menopause when you have no period for 12 months. For you, having no periods, this is difficult to say. High LH and FSH is typically seen in perimenopause and menopause, but the problem is that levels can fluctuate. Generally they don’t check your blood levels for perimenopause alone through the NHS, if you are symptomatic enough they might offer starting HRT. Feeling agitated can be a symptom of perimenopause, but is also a symptom of overactive thyroid, so depending when you increased your thyroid dose it may be that this is too high, worth speaking to your GP
Not been on higher dose of thyroxine to make that effect, but i just been informed that the new brand i been put on can make u ill. I phone GP Monday but u wait a month for a telephone consultation
I cannot take HRT as my nan died of breast cancer so apparently higher risk with that.
Oh sorry, where you said ‘extra 25mg thyroxine ’ I thought that meant you’d had a recent dose increase. And rush if breast cancer is mainly if you carry the gene from what I know, the website balance-menopause.com may have more info on this. I have read that gp’s can be quick to rule out hrt with any family history of breast cancer
What dosage of levo are you on before the 25mcg increase.
Just testing TSH only is no good. You need your T4 & T3 testing as well, but doctors don’t think this is important.
Your TSH is too high and you need an increase in levo, which you have been given. but, you really need full thyroid testing and if possible vitamin levels too.
Can you afford to buy a private thyroid test kit?. It is a finger prick test via Medichecks.
You stay on your increase dosage for 6-8 weeks then test again and keep increasing until you TSH is around 1, and most importantly you feel better.
If you haven’t already I would pop your original post on the thyroid forum for further advice.
I’m on thyroid medication and now on HRT, but the thyroid forum is brilliant for help and helped me so much around 5 years ago get my thyroid health back on track.
