Menopause and dizziness
Hi Sharice. I get migraines too which started smack on 51 at the same time as the good old menopause! I was put on beta blockers for my migraines which lowered my already low blood pressure & heart rate & I started getting dizziness & passing out (almost) on standing. I’m 56 now, many investigations later, cardiologists, Neurologists, ophthalmologists, no-one ever suggested to me that it could be menopause. I’ve just started on HRT and discovered the My Menopause Doctor website run by Dr Louise Newson. They have a questionnaire on there which you can fill in. I was amazed how many of my symptoms were (or could be) menopause. I’ve been investigated for POTS, had heart scans, 24 hour heart monitor, all fine. I’m pretty sure it’s all menopause. I’ve been on HRT four weeks now & already I’m starting to feel better. So yes, I would say your dizziness could well be menopause! Have a look on the My Menopause Doctor website. Lots of great info on there. 😊.
I'm definately going to have a look,so pleased your starting to feel better after all this time♥️
Thank you! Yes definitely have a look and if you have a smartphone download the Balance App - it’s free and there’s a forum on there too. Also you can record your symptoms daily & it will produce a health report for you to take to your GP. I am praying that the HRT works for me. Particularly with the migraines. I haven’t been able to exercise properly for nearly six years. I’ve put on a stone in weight 😩. I just want to get back to it. Good luck & hang in there. We got this 😊.
Hello both, you're not alone! I get dizzy and shaky when standing and have also become a lot more clumsy in the last few years and I'm 50 now. I've tried HRT in the past but found it made my fatigue a lot worse. I've put on LOTS of weight!
I'm currently waiting for a follow up from an appointment I had last week for a prescription of lower dose of HRT to see if that works better for me, I second what Wales 99 says about the Louise Newson site. The advice there is very straightforward and clearly written, which helps as I have perimenopausal brainfog too! I wrote down a list of the symptoms from the website a couple of years ago and refer to it regularly to see if I have any new ones or if there have been any changes. To prepare for my appointment to discuss trying HRT again I read her book too and it helped me to think of questions I wanted to ask.
Hi there, you are not alone. I’ve been seeing an ENT specialist for several months and have scans etc as I’ve had vertigo and vomiting episodes. The ENT specialist has concluded that it’s hormone related (I’m 55 and have just hit the menopause) after I kept a diary and he’s said it’s ‘Menier’s like’ but he can’t explain why hormones should cause this. I’ve done a bit of research and apparently the menopause can affect balance as it’s possible that the levels of fluid in your inner ears could be affected by hormonal changes.
