Is my oestrogen high or low?

Hi everyone,

I had a full hysterectomy two years ago and I've been having a bit of trouble getting my HRT right since. My latest results are attached but I'm confused as to whether my Beta Oestadiol level means my HRT (100mg patches) are working or not? I've been on them for about two months but they've been causing rashes underneath the patch and I'm not feeling well generally. I have anxiety, breast tenderness, lower back pain, exhaustion and flu-like symptoms, which I used to experience before my period. I also have Hashimoto's.

Thanks for you any help / advice you can offer!

hi it can take a minimum of 3 months to settle on HRT but can be a bit more difficult when you have thyroid issues, which may also need tweaking. There are alternatives to patches such as gel or a spray. Blood tests for your hormones are not really a good indicator as they can fluctuate all day.

Thank you. I’ve tried other HRTs but I can’t seem to get it right!

Looks like the test went a bit wonky, I would redo. I had one like that so tried again and result came down from 10,828 to 278 and not had anything lije it since. No idea why, just something went wrong.

Thank you. Hmmm, it does sound like it. It was done as part of a wider test and the other results are okay, so it’s really odd!

Yes, mine was too and only oestradiol out on mine too. Consultant seemed to just say can happen. Plus was so sky high, different when repeated and not been that high again when oestrogen dose not changed. (Btw I am hypothyroid).

Apparently, there were some issues with my test so I have to do it again. And pay again! 🙄

I don’t know as everyone one is different some people need a higher hormone level than others, also because of Hashimoto's it can be harder to level out.

Are you on Facebook as there is a great group on there. The HRT truth collective. Or look up menopausal not mad web site Jane is very knowledgeable about menopause etc

Are you on to the care of an endocrinologist they would be the best people to advise?

Sadly, I’ve given up on the NHS ones. They’ve often made me feel worse instead of better and it’s almost impossible to get an appointment!

I had an appointment scheduled with a private specialist this week, but unfortunately she’s had to go into hospital for several weeks. I’m sure she’ll reschedule once she’s better.

Hang on in there!Out of interest how much is the private sector costing.

Still persue NHS, as you might run out out money.

Or a menopause specialist clinics

It’s about £500 with the tests to go privately, but I think the tests have somehow gone wrong. Whenever I go via the NHS they insist on putting my Thyroxine down. Then I crash and they panic and put it back up again, so I’ve given up to be honest.

The NHS even tried to blame my extreme pelvic pain on my thyroid. Things got so bad I had to go privately and it turned out I had two serious gyne conditions. The private doctor diagnosed me within five minutes of the back of NHS scans and I had to have a full hysterectomy 😬

I’m not shaming the NHS because they are absolutely incredible, but I feel like they have to stick to pretty rigid guidelines so things slip through the net.

Unfortunately this is something quite common people having difficulty with the NHS.I supposed too much pressure with the pandemic and backlog.

If you do any urgent care remember you're still entitled to go to A & E

I agree - they are totally overwhelmed and I’m sure would love to more, but I guess you can’t pour from an empty cup! Very sad 😞
