I have entered the liverpool half marathon and I am running to raise money for lupus however I'm struggling with the training. Short runs aren't too bad but as soon as I do slightly longer ones I hurt so much. I did 6 miles yesterday n my whole body aches today! Any tips? I do warm up n cool down!

aparently its realy good for starting running, it does have advice on warming up and down so may be of use.
i know how you feel i used to be able to run went from non runner to doing 5 k in 22 minutes which is not super fast but good for a 36 year old wh wasnt that fit ( and may have had lupus, but didnt know). since this flare up did initialy have no major problems with exercise, even when diagnosed with the viral pericarditis did 5k 2 days after discharge but like you was so ill the day after not contemplated it since.
good luck with your training.
can't answer your question just wanted sat your amazing and good luck x
Hi i did a 10k for lupus uk couple of years ago , i have been a runner s for many years, half marathons are heavy going, have admit after doing my 10k i had a major flare up of lupus, so my advice would be don't push your body, listen to it and eat well and all the very best to you, suppose it didn't help that my run was on the hottest day of the year!! I have SLE with cardiac involvement and sjogrens{ and had a hole in my heart which didn't know i had until a few months after!
Best Wishes and take care

Hello
I am a regular participant in half marathons, did the great north run last year. I have lupus, osteoarthritis, raynauds. I can only manage to run 3 times a week. Two short runs during the week approx 3 miles tues and usually thurs, and do the longer runs at the weekend when more time to recover. I slowly build up the weekend runs either 5 or 10 mins extra at time which equal aprrox half to as mile a week increase. Sometimes I have to do the same long run a couple of times before I can step up a gear. I always give myself a longer training plan than those recommened just incase anything goes wrong inbetween.
I have trained my body to take on lucozade whilst running, watered down can not drink it neat and found it does help a little and hand full of jelly babies in pocket help too.
If you want to know more let me know and I will do my best, but good luck and keep going. My Rheumy has always told me never to stop running - its the best thing to keep going. Yes I ache/hurt for a while after, - could not sleep last night and feel terrible this morning but will be ouot running tonight to ease all those aches away.
