Hi! My dentist felt that a root canal was high risk for me. If something went wrong with it we knew my body wouldn’t handle it very well. We opted to have an oral surgeon pull the tooth instead and do a synthetic bone graft at the same time so the area is prepared for an implant when I’m ready. They did a deep sedation on me so I was asleep for the procedure and it took less than an hour. It was very easy and I healed up very well and quickly. If you choose this route I believe my dentist and surgeon said that a ceramic implant is best. My two brothers also had root canals and both of their’s failed and they still had to have their’s pulled (one tooth each). A root canal definitely works for some people, this is just my own experience. =) Best of luck!
Thanks so much for this! 🙏
I’ve had one done, no problems. I had to have it done as my tooth was infected and had formed an abscess. It was either that or let it get worse. No thank you! I had no reactions whatsoever, normal recovery. Good luck with your decision!
Hi, I had root canal done before I was diagnosed with Lupus and it was very successful. I have also had it done since being diagnosed and on medication and again it was successful, how ever I was meticulous about hygiene on this occasion.
At the present time I’m having problems with my gums and teeth and unsure about how I go forward. But I’m awaiting surgery for a new shoulder so I will see how that goes before I think of implants for my teeth.
Wish you every success with your decision.
Hi, I have had both root canal fillings and dental implants. It can be gruelling and my advice would be to take special care of yourself during the treatment. Hygiene must be scrupulous and don't underestimate your need to rest and recover. If you are offered a sedative I would recommend to take it! Good luck x
I have had 6 root canals over the last 10 years. I have Lupus and Sjogrens although my lupus is on the milder side most of the time. No problems for me apart from I have become reactive to the adrenaline in the numbing injection so I have an adrenaline free injection now. Its hard but you don't really know until you try a root canal unfortunately. Get them to be especially aware of your condition and get them to take it slow and book a longer appointment than normal. You need a really good dental surgeon too in case you have root issues. I had one done recently and the root was twisted a bit and because he was not that competent it took an hour and a half and he nearly gave up and referred me to a more competent dentist. As it was I had to go back again the next week as it wasn't fully done and the pain came back. Maybe get them to be honest and book with another more competent one if they are not fully competent. The stress of my last one was awful and I changed dentists to one who works in a hospital and teaches dental surgery as well as having a practice. I am happier now in safer hands as my teeth are a nightmare.
Ive had several root canals over the years, all went well. Best of luck whatever you do!
had a tooth implant surgery last week , 3 days later, shingles. Obviously the procedure can stress the body big time it seems. I hope your process goes smoothly, but look after yourself after, it will help
Just had 2 out last Friday. I've herd that root canal can get infected after done. Just got to have a good dentist really . And tell them your condition .I was worried about 2 out.
